RIP Former KFYI Talker Austin Hill

Best known for his PMD show on 5~Fifty with Tom Liddy, Austin Hill passed away last Friday http://www.ktvb.com/story/news/local/2015/11/16/austin-hill-kido-death/75861156/ The Liddy & Hill Show was a precursor to the humor based afternoon talk show Mac & Gaydos on 92~Three. After the two took that ill-fated Alaskan cruise and decided to seek green pastures in syndication, Hill did fill in work for both KFYI and KTAR, plus a slew of other talk stations. A tip of the fez to a talented talker & writer who left the world too early.

Godspeed, Austin. Thank you for all the good radio - substantial radio, thoughtful radio - you brought to this market and elsewhere at a time when talkers like you are a premium. You will be missed. :(

As I noted elsewhere, for whatever reason Austin chose not to include in the bio on his website his years as a country music DJ and fill-in newscaster at KZLA in Los Angeles during most of the 1990s. It was from there that KTKP summoned him when they went news/talk at the end of that decade; they had probably heard his weekend public affairs program on KZLA (which continued there for a couple of years after his move to Phoenix).

He was as good a music format air talent as he was a talk format air talent, IMO.
