RIP HANK MURPHY

I was saddened to walk into ABC this past weekend and see a posting on the bulletin board of the death of Hank Murphy.

Hank worked on HOT AC for years and was a friend to many at ABC. He had a wife and daughter.

He was one of those guys who one never heard an ill word from or about, a truly nice guy who loved radio and had the passion for it.

He worked next door to me at the network on Saturday middays while I was on and we enjoyed many brief conversations in the halls and break room...I saw him only weeks ago when he came back to work what had to be his last shifts on the network, and although I didn't recognize him and realized it was apparent he was very ill, I had no idea I'd never chat with him again.

I read his obit and realized my impression was not wrong. He was a devoted family man, Christian, and volunteered his time to many causes. It noted his favorite phrase, "I'm blessed and highly favored".

Indeed.

Thanks, Steve, for the heads up. I found a photo of him on the web, but just couldn't remember him from ABC. Nevertheless, he had a website/blog at www.hankmurphy.com, still operational but not updated in a while. Hank was only 44 years old. Very sad.
