It's not gone for good yet...My guess is its gone for good, as with most markets, Medford and environs is over radioed, so if they sell it, it oculd go to someone whod compete for commercial advertising dollars.
Plus the "KMED" format of news talk is on several FM signals already by now
It's not gone for good yet...
A Silent STA was filed yesterday. "The licensee lost its tower lease for KYVL(AM). The tower will be demolished on or about October 19, 2023. The special temporary authority to remain silent is needed to allow the licensee time to explore other site options."
you mis read and mis understood what i said.... if they SOLD KMED-AM to someone else, it would compete for listeners/dollarsCan't see how the AM simulcasting the FM would compete for radio dollars. But reconfiguring AM antennas to add signals -- at least according to the pros here on RD -- isn't cheap, apparently.
With the demise of 1440 Medford, KODL 1440 The Dalles has applied to increase night power from 23 watts to 370 watts. This also returns them to protected Class B at night from a daytimer Class D.
Going up to the Medford area often from SF to visit friends KMED 1440 had a decent signal back in the 90's.
Their transmitter site if I recall correctly had a small short street going into it, with a fence.
It seems just waiting for the day to take station off the air and build houses.
