RIP Mark Shannon

Today is a sad day for radio. I remember listening to Mark on KRXO back in the 90's as a kid the studio's was down in Moore and I remember my dad driving thru the parking lot and honking and Mark would always wave back. Mark's dream was to go out on top and he did finally landing on the station he always wanted to be on KTOK. My heart goes out to his family and friends and past and present co workers. Congrats Mark! we are all glad to know you are not in pain and we all know you converted the grim reaper to a Republican before you went with him RIP :'(

I pulled this from Ron Black's blog:

Mark's family would like to extend sincere thanks to all of his radio family, listners, readers, and friends. A celebration of his life will at at 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 13 at Faith Bible Church 600 N. Coltrane in Edmond.

I remember listening to Shannon and the Eggman on KRXO back in high school in the late 80's. I always perceived (rightly or wrongly) that Mark knew a ton about the music and always thought he was one of the stronger (non-Country) personalities in the city at that time. I've since moved out of the city and hadn't been able to listen to Mark in many years, but I always had a perception that Mark was one of the good guys in the industry ... I just pray and hope he and his family have peace.

That makes me feel old. I remember listening to him when I was a kid and he and Stacy Barton did mornings on KJ-103.

I remember that, too, only I was probably a little older than you!

That was my second internship, doing research. The researchers shared an office with Mark and Stacy; and not to rip on those RIPping, but he was none too pleased with having to share with us, though he probably didn't mind Stacy so much. But we didn't run into him often, as he usually had hit the road before we got there later in the afternoon. I also recall Stacy's gigantic George Strait poster on the wall, a foreshadowing of her going to KEBC later on! But even though I was a relative whippersnapper then, it definitely makes me feel old too. Just think, the retro '00 shows will be coming out any month now!
