RIP SLIM SHORT

Mr. Slim Short died this morning in Greenville. He was a radio & TV legend
and a super nice man.I got to know him personally over the last few years
and he was a humble, great person whom I will miss.He and his wife Sue became good friends with my mom and I got to know them.In August 2005 I sat in his living room and he told me some great stories about his radio and TV career including bringing Elvis to Wilson in 1955-56.I used that interview on a show I did about Elvis and I will always treasure it.
I hope radio & TV around here will give Mr.Bob(Slim) the tribute he deserves. My Mom and I will miss him.He was a great personality and an even greater man.Our industry has lost one of a kind...

I remember seeing him on TV dressed as Santa. Kids would send their Christmas lists to channel 9 and he would read them on the air. What a thrill to hear your list on TV! You just knew that Erector set was as good as yours.

Slim came to Carolina Today in 1959 and retired in December 1993.He was a radio legend lon before he came to TV.

Visitation is tuesday 6-8pm at Wilkerson's Funeral Home in Grenville.
The Funeral is Wednesday Morning at 11am.

Slim was a good fellow...Robert Allen (AKA Slim Short ) was on Carolina Today for over 30 years..Started in radio at WFTC in Kinston.. My condolences to Suer and Family.

BIG APE!

If someone ever writes a book on Eastern North Carolina Broadcasting, there
should be a chapter devoted to Slim Short, WNCT-TV was blessed to have his
services for three decades as host of one of the longest running morning shows
in the country, "Carolina Today", and for a short time hosted "Almanac" on
WITN-TV with the late Dick Jones, many people enjoyed his talent like myself
and never knew he was well known in radio, one of the things i always enjoyed
about "Carolina Today" is the conversations he had with people like Hal Moore,
Jim Woods and others who sat with him weekdays mornings, this kind of
morning program is missed today.
My condolences go out to his family, he will be missed.
