RIP Tim Russert!

CBS just broke into The Guiding Light for a special report.

Russert was born 1950.

Russert was born in my hometown of Buffalo New York in 1950. He was an advid Buffalo Bills fan.

This news comes as a great shock to everyone who either worked with or admited Russert's work at NBC. Hard to believe he was only 58.

Just heard this on CNN. I just saw part of Meet the Press two or three weeks ago. He will be missed.

Wolf Blitzer says Tim was just on WTOP Radio in Washington this morning.

Just saw the news, various sources...he was voicing promos for this Sunday's show when he collapsed.
Hannity said on his radio show that Russert had given a big donation to the Freedom Concerts but
didn't publicize that he did etc,
RIP

I just saw the newsflash on, of all places, the NFL Network...that, of course due to him being an avid Buffalo Bills fan, and having presented an award to Ed and Steve Sabol, founders of NFL Films.

I'm watching the MSNBC coverage...Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams are reminiscing about Mr. Russert.

Shocking and saddening indeed :'(

I'm told that ABC broke in as well. Didn't see it myself.

CBS Radio at 1 p.m. PDT reported that Russert had just returned from vacation in
Italy to do voice-overs, etc., in Washington when he suffered the heart attack...

RIP, Tim...we'll miss you...

Knowing that he loved politics, this would have been his fifth presidential election and I'm sure he would have enjoyed possibly seeing American history being made (if Barack Obama does win in November). NBC News will probably have a difficult time replacing him seeing as how he's been more associated with Meet the Press than anything else. We'll miss you, Little Russ. :'(

Tim Russert was probably, week after week, the
best-prepared interviewer on Sunday mornings.
And he showed a human side as well; witness his
rooting for the Bills during football season.

Russert's passing hit me like the proverbial ton
of bricks. And callous as it may seem right now,
I don't know who can step in and keep "Meet The
Press" on top.

Right now, my condolences to the Russert family--
his biological one and his colleagues at NBC.

What a tragedy. Whether or not you agreed with him, his sense of decency always shone through. The honor he showed to his parents, especially to his father, spoke volumes about the man he was. According to an interview I heard with Steve Scully at C-Span, he was enjoying this Presidential campaign immensely. He will be missed.

A rare and dying breed. I'm wondering who they'll get to replace him on Meet the Press (Chris Matthews? Keith Olbermann? Tom Brokaw? David Gregory?), and I wonder if anyone will replace him as a hard-hitting, yet fair, balanced, and authoritative journalist and interviewer.

I am one that admired Russert for his work, is it just me, or is the incessent fawning over him on all news channels just a little, um, uncomfortable to watch? My condolences go out to his family, but come on. Anytime anything happens to anyone in the media, they act as if the world has come to a stop.

loved him. smart, always asked the right questions, a fantastic journalist. and i'll miss his smiling face on my tv.

kyscott, I do think the coverage is a little excessive. NBC Nightly News didn't leave the story as far as I could see. At least half of the CBS Evening News was devoted to him. Even Inside Edition gave him two or three minutes.

I don't think Entertainment Tonight mentioned him ... but I imagine their show was taped before the announcement.

I was truly shocked to hear the news tonight while watching ABC with Charlie Gibson. I couldn't believe it. He was one of the best, if not THE best. There was nothing I looked forward to more each weekend than this program. It's been part of my Sunday routine for as long as I can remember. I just watched Meet The Press this weekend, and Tim had a recap of this year's Presidential primary. The entire NBC News political team was part of his panel, and you just couldn't ignore his excitement and passion for politics. It's a shame he's not going to be around to cover the elections this November, likely to be one of the most exciting moments in our nation's history. I also feel terrible that his wife and son had to hear the news of his passing while on vacation in Italy. I couldn't imagine what they're going through, learning the news while alone in a foreign country, then having to grieve on that long flight home. Like politics, his son was his other passion, and it's sad that he's going to miss out on so many things in his life. They were all on vacation together, celebrating his son's graduation from Boston College. Tim came back to the states yesterday, leaving his wife and son behind. It's hard to make any sense of this, life, death, etc. But tonight many of Tim's colleagues called him a amazing, gentle man. He was an Irish-Catholic from humble upbringings in Buffalo, New York. He became a success on his own, but never forgot where he came from. He loved children and created many funds, programs, and scholarships to help educate low-income kids and one day send them to college. He also was deeply religious and helped with Catholic charities. If there's anything to make of all this, it's comforting to know that he and his wife were able to celebrate their son's graduation together and vacation in a beautiful country as a family one last time. It was also reported that they attended a special Mass at the Vatican with the Pope. With all of Tim's accomplishments, charitable work, and overall good heartedness, I think God called one of his angel's home. RIP Tim Russert. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
