Heard a rumor that Jim Rising is out at Entercom...any truth to it? If so any insight as to why?

I have worked with Jim for a couple of years and in a business that can be cruel, he is a good and decent man, who has a real love for the business. Jim's impact on radio in this market goes back to the early days of KRZ and clearly had a part in changing the course of radio in NEPA.

The page says Jim has a recording studio and apparently teaches music recording at LCC. He wants to teach and publish a book.

Despite the "spin" that Entercom is trying to get out there on this, make no mistake, this was a budget cut. I guess they just don't want that type of word to get out there. And I don't know why, as Entercom made multiple employee cuts in Buffalo a week or 2 ago, that's out there.

No way he'd just drop that job. And if he really did "resign", why out the door right away? Everytime I've seen someone resign ( and when I have taken new jobs by my decision) they put in some "notice time". When it's NOT the employee's decision, they're out the door right away. Hmmm .. which happened here?

Entercom spent way more than they made. Why does WGGY continue to have live talent on every day
and two middays jocks? - BUDGET CUT and more to come.

As far as Mr. Jim resigning, maybe he did maybe he didn't. Maybe he went in to resign, and they just sent him on his way. Either way, it's too bad. If he left because he was stressed out and needed a change for his health, I wish him well, and it's sad that the company pushed him so hard he had to make a choice between his health and his job. If they cut his position, it's still too bad. Here's someone who put in 27 years in the same place. The loss in expereince is tragic.

Gee...I know his name became the station's property some years ago. If not...wait a few months...the name...not the man will be reappearing at an Entercom station near you...

What a shame. Jim is a class act, one of the best out there. I would be willing to guess some of the budget cuts are because of WILK. They axed one of their news readers and their only on the street reporter some time back. If they let them go due to budgetary constraints and then add another local talker that had to put a financial burden on properties. I am sure they aren't paying Corbett minimum wage. He is probably getting double what Regan was being paid. Actually, after Kevin Lynn's shot about some one new making more than him --- I wouldn't be suprised if they shelled out big money for Corbett. Probably putting a huge strain on the entire local group.

Who's running the show? How could a company with two highly rated stations, KRZ and Froggy, be hurting for money?
You're headed in the right direction, my friend.

Hey Jim Good Luck in whatever the future holds for you.. A great person to work with and always gave 150 per cent. I was there when KRZ went on the air. I think we should get the original people together and have some kind of bash. Think of some of the names. Jim did mornings, Bud Brown was his news man. Jay Daniels-Dave London-Tommy Sommers (also the engineer at the time). and of course Jumpin' Jeff. It was fun working there and a great experiance to work for Jim. Gee wait I almost forgot Jim Shea. If anyone can come up with some of the other people please post them here. If I am not mistaken, Jim Rising is his real name and not owned by Entercom. Once again Good Luck to you Jim!

I guess "salaries" was one thing they COULDN'T get the record companies to take care of for them!

I find it interesting that LC3 was just advertising for someone to teach Recording Studio classes. Has Jim found something better than we all know he's good at? ;)

Jim's another in a long line of radio and TV people in this market who have been "rewarded" for their success by being fired. Sometimes mediocrity has merit, at least you fly beneath the radar of those who can kick you to the curb. Jim's a great guy, here's hoping Entercom pays a price for their stupidity.

As I see it.. there is no personality in the market who get's the credit they deserve from management. I've noticed that if you're smart, you prepare youself for that inevitable day by developing a rapport with an organization or company you would like to be with. Sometimes it's a policical post, and haven't we seen enough of those jobs filled by TV types (Cathy Bozinsky, Keith Martin, Vince Sweeny)... radio people sometimes form good relationships with other organizations like LCCC, Kings, or charaties they help promote while on air... The smart people have these positions in sight as a safety net when the ax finally falls, and if they time it right these positions can be quite rewarding. I wish Jim the best, I hope he doesn't look back.. he'll be better off teaching and preparing for a real retirement when the time is right.

Yes, it is his actual name BUT the story I had been told was they (either prior owner Sinclair or Current Entercom) offered him substantial cash to exclusive use of the name. His son did a Sunday morning college show on Wilkes and was slapped with a cease & desist for using his own name.
