Well, yes...97.5 FM News Channel ditched the syndicated talk shows to go wall-to-wall Rita news and info with callers talking about preparation and evacuation, school closings, evacuatuion routes, local communiques and the like---EXCELLENT responsiveness to the situation...the entire afternoon news team was on til 10 pm and maybe beyond...certainly, they will continue with the same through the weekend...I am impressed...am proud to say I worked with Laurie K and Robyn G at News 24...

Will the Missouri City Sticks Hold up?
From what I hear we may get a lot heavier winds than Alicia...what are these things rated to withstand?

I don't know about their ratings, but I'd guess that due to their size & loads, they'd have to be guyed very. Very well.
A good point was made on the Louisiana board about guyed vs. free standing towers. The poster said wind isn't an issue in bringing a tower down, but debris. Flying projectiles can slice guy wires.
On that note, since several of the candelabras are top heavy (as is their nature), I'd be concerned if they can withstand wind.

Last model I looked at from a Austin station looks like it says its going south of Brownsville, but they had shown 5 diffrent areas where it could go in. I need to acually go out to my area at Lavaca county to get things on the ground and strap down my antenna better just in case.

According to the official track at 5PM ET on 9/21, it's still expected to make landfall between Corpus Christi and Galveston Friday night or Saturday morning. Brownsville is the current southern limits of the "Cone of Fear", I mean, "Cone of Uncertainty".

But to answer another's question, from what I understand, at least half of the Mississippi Gulf Coast stations are back up and running and about half of the New Orleans stations also...But yeah it all depends upon age/care of the tower and debris...another thing to consider however.. reportedly one tower in Katrina's wake survived but had the transmitter shack split by a log... The transmitter is roughly 12 feet up in the air....

I would go ahead and take your antenna down and put it in the attic it may be a pain to take it down but will save you money incase the antennas break. <P ID="signature">______________

Yeah I decided at the last secound before I came back to do that,,,, but hopefully i'll have it back up and dx'n back to Houston once again soon... just need to get a chance to come back down there. I didnt want to half to go and order another one, my TV antenna there is a b*tch to take off so I just lowered it. I hope it dont get to bad around there.
