Rivendell Automation

Anyone had a chance to install or demo the Rivendell Automation system being developed by Salem?

It looks sort-of "NexGen'-ish.

I know I had looked at it some time ago when I was looking to replace my piece o' crap Digital Jukebox automation system. It looks good but I needed to stay with some other Windows-based software, so I opted for another solution. If I had the time I would have made more of an effort to look at it but I was under a time limit. It does look promising, though

Will be switching from Prophet to Rivendell in a month or so...being a Salem station we get pretty good support on it...so far, in testing it, we're very pleased with it's performance. The Linus platform makes the system work more like an appliance than a crashable computer system (windows) and I'm a pro-Windows kinda guy. The price is right too, $00.00 for software, $00.00 for licensing...

Bill,

Hardware is so cheap these days, you could easily build a sturdy box to run Linux.

With OpenSUSE and Rivendell, you'd be rolling for just the cost of the hardware.

Linux configuration, while easier than in it was 10 years ago, is still not for those that need to have their hand held. BUT, as noted a Linux system is usually so stable that the thing is almost an appliance.

Generally, you'd only need to do a complete system reboot if you had a rare system halting crash or you rebuilt the kernal.

We're going away from Windows and heading to Linux on all the machines that our staff surfs the Internet on.

are you guys a music format or one of the postive/conservie talk stations? I wonder how well rivendell would handle a music formated station.

Matt:

I'm getting ready to try running a music webstream on Rivendell in a month or so. I'll post my results to let everyone know.

The combinaton of Linux and open source makes it a real promising solution for running our to-be launched secondary channels.
