River 92.5 DJ Rita Carey fired for talking too much (B Globe)

Reaction on River 92.5's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/925theriver

--Dislike
--Did you really fire RitaCary? ???? I see a lot of unhappy listeners!
--Isn't talking about the music what makes 92.5 a great independent radio station? Disappointed
92.5 The River: "Absolutely! We will continue to talk about the music and introduce new stuff daily. That will never change!"
--you fired one of the best Dj's ever...I for one am no longer interested in tuning in..I tuned in for Rita...she loved her job..was online chatting for every music or sporting event...she worked more hours than she could have ever been paid...most positive person I have ever encountered. I am DONE with The Rive

Oh well...

That's "business"...For the record, I don't like this move at all. But I'm sure that there will be a lot of radio "professionals" who unequivocally agree with this decision.

Sorry to hear about this because 92.5 The River is a station I listen to frequently. Actually I record their stream (either on my computer or on my iPhone through the TuneIn Radio Pro app) and listen later. It’s a shame when anyone is fired, especially under the stated “reason” for the termination.

Having said that, I am not a fan of morning shows/jocks on any of the AAA stations to which I listen and record. I make it a point to NOT record during the morning drive shows for the very reason that there’s 1) too much talk about junk similar to what’s aired on TV shows like “Extra” and Access Hollywood”; 2) traffic and weather reports are too frequent especially irrelevant for me because I live in Orange County, CA; 3) even more commercials during morning drive; and 4) because of 1,2,and 3, there’s less time for music. Typically during most other day parts, AAA stations play 12-13 tracks while during morning drive on the same stations the count is more like 7-9. BUT you still need some personality injected into the format and not all stations can handle this aspect well but two of the best examples are 107.1 The Peak (Westchester County, NY in “New York’s Backyard”) and KINK-FM Portland (OR). Both stations feature jocks who know how to introduce the music (when appropriate); back announce (again when appropriate); and have some new info about the track and/or artist played or about to be played.

So that's my opinion on morning drive shows and remember I said I am not a fan, so I don't listen. But I do understand why music stations have morning shows that feature more talk. If I want talk, I have other choices :)

I have to say that while I've enjoyed WXRV from time to time, the owner seems to run off some good talent. Not sure what exactly the management issues or difficulties are there, but Rita's not the first Triple A pro that's been bounced for strange reasons. Anyone know what Silberberg's deal is?

Here's what is a pet peeve of commercial FM stations. The DJs talk all the way through the instrumental beginning of songs, especially on CHRs and Country stations. They blab and blab about the next contest going on, or even put on a listener during that instrumental beginning! Leave the songs at peace and put the contest promo at the end of the music set before commercials. Sometimes they talk 10 seconds before the song ends!

So it looks like its Dana Marshall in morning drive now. Does anyone see the irony in this move?

I didn't listen regularly to WXRV in the morning (although it is one of my favorite music stations) but when Greater Media blew up WBOS-FM rebranding as Radio 92.9, the only person they kept was Dana Marshall. Their press release about the change included the fact that they wanted to be music intensive without the DJ chatter. I was a faithful listener of WBOS at the time and the DJ that talked the most (and usually about her life things and not anything to do about the artists or songs) was Dana Marshall. And she was doing mid-days at the time.

If WXRV wants a music intensive morning show I would think the last person you would want in morning drive is Dana.

I think that is why I am listening to Bob/Jack FM stations more than classic rock stations for my 80s rock music. No DJs to have to deal with and no morning show gossip.

Dana was still behind the scenes, but was not on air after the switch. The only show with a host at that point was Sunday Morning Over Easy.
