The simulcast is most likely a temporary thing. Extending WWRR's signal via 94.3 does nothing but duplicate Lackwanna County coverage and extends The River into Wayne County which is not part of the 5 county W-B/Scr metro and so will do nothing to help the numbers. One explanation for the simulcast could be in the contract that following closing none of the agreements, such as those to carry Tesh, etc, would be applicable to Bold Gold. If a new format were not ready in time when Bold Gold closed on the deal then it is better to simulcast, and then when you've got all your ducks in a row, debut a new format on 94.3.
What I can't figure out is why Citadel sold off 94.3 in the first place. A 93.7/94.3 simulcast makes perfect sense and dates back to the Cool 94 days when now Bold Gold's Bob V was involved with WSGD as it began its simulcast onto new sister-station WDLS. It covered both Scranton and Wilkes-Barre very well and was not unlike the 92.1/100.1 simulcast of today signal-wise.
