River's Edge on 97.7

That stinks. It's such a great format. It's got a big piece of 99X history on it.

Sorry 99X is not coming back. Neither is 96 Rock, Peach / Lite 94.9, Dave, or Fox 97. They Failed. Whether it was poor execution of the format, or bad corporate decisions which would have allowed some else to jump in, no one did. Demographically the old 99X should be attractive (potentially large sub 25) in a lot of markets, but Atlanta's lack of full market FM signals:

Contrasted to Phoenix:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bi...p=Y&format=&dx=0&radius=&freq=&sort=freq&sid=

plus racial make up according to Nielsen:

"#9 Atlanta
January 2015 Portable People Meter 6+ Mon-Sun, 6a-12mid (Updated: 02-17-15)
12+ Population: 4,487,600 (Black: 1,469,100) (Hispanic: 461,500) Surveyed: Continuously"

It is going to make it hard for anyone with the huge investment or value of a good Atlanta FM signal to take a chance on a format that failed in this market except on translators.

It just sucks for the listener but, unless someone wins a really huge Lottery or needs a tax write off, the sponsors and their agencies will control what we hear.

Can't speak for the other stations but with regards to 99x - The only reason why it failed is because Cumulus got a hold of it. The sound of 99x changed in the 2ks (especially after 2005). Radio 105.7 and X107 will also fail but make no mistake about it - It has nothing to do with the format and it's viability in Atlanta but everything to do with how the stations are being executed.

I'm not speaking for Top 40, Hip Hop, Country or AC stations but with regards to Alternative, tight playlists with high repetition will NEVER work in any city for a long period of time. The average alternative fan is not listening to FM anymore because of this. With that being said, I can see why some compare River's Edge to 99X. One thing you won't hear on this station is high repetition.

I'm not a fan of variety hits personally but even I don't understand why the hell a variety hits station hasn't been erected in Atlanta. Makes no sense to me.

That stinks. It's such a great format. It's got a big piece of 99X history on it. I wish they would put that format on 107.1. There's really not enough new alternative music to put on one station these days. 105.7 seems to play both new and old. I guess the River's Edge fills in the AAA gap in our market.

One more thing while I'm on my alternative rant: Radio 105.7 barley touches anything post 2012. Out of the top 50 songs spinning on alternative radio at any given moment, radio 105.7 probably touches about 20% of them. The rest of their format is cream of the crop alternative from the 90s. X107 is basically Alt 40 which is a slap in the face to Alternative.

TOSOTR on 93.5 (which was back on about a week ago) was replaced by a simul of Kiss 104.1 this evening.

I noticed the Other Side of the River is back again on 97.7...I'm so confused. Better signal. They must have switched to the new directional antenna. I can see however that the new Z97.7 upgrade in Milledgeville will disrupt this signal on rainy days, early mornings, and other heavy DXing times.

I am confused too. They are also back on HD3 on 97.1. But their signal is off and quality is horrible sounding. Why did they mess with it when they were going to put it back. Dumb Corporate Radio.

I'm confused as to why Cox even bothers to put the OSTR on a translator since it's commercial free and generates almost zero revenue. Not to mention they also own X1071, the other alternative station.

I'm also guessing that it stayed off air until they had a signal on WSRV HD-3 to rebroadcast back onto 97.7. I noticed they started carrying Gwinnett Braves games on 97.7. I do see the CP is still on the FCC's website to move it over to 92.5. I guess that is still in the works. However, it states that this CP is to rebroadcast WNGC on 106.1. Not sure why it would need to do that when you can hear WNGC very clear in Gwinnett.

Apparently WSB is now the PXP partner for the G-Braves: http://www.wsbradio.com/s/gwinnett/braves/
using an online feed from wsbradio.com plus terrestrial radio on 97.7.

WDUN had the G-Braves PXP before; someone at Digital White Columns must have it in for Jacobs, with the whole mess that happened a few years back with Cox Athens/Gainesville stopping WDUN from broadcasting UGA PXP when they picked up WNGC and WXKT. Now there are three Cox FM signals in the Gainesville area carrying UGA PXP--WNGC, WXKT, and WSBB. WXKT seems redundant with WSBB and WNGC, unless they want to either somehow lock out or thumb their nose at WDUN.

Cox, of course, didn't want to pay as much as Dickey/Cumulus did for the Atlanta Braves.

Heard Steve Craig the other day introduce the station as "97-7 The Other Side of the River" after he was advertising the fact that the Gwinnett Braves are now on that station. Steve does the announcements for the station...why don't they make him a DJ?
