On Thursday 6/1/06 Ron Joseph And Irv Homer will discuss Two of the Hottest subjects in Philadelphia on WBCB AM 1490 and on www.wbcb.com. 1 to 3pm. Namely, Comcast Cablevision continues to have a stronghold on the Philadelphia cable subcribers. If you noticed on tv Verizon is putting a new cable company together in New Jersey and Philadelphia to give people a second choice in cable called Verizon Fios. This will enable cable prices to come down and a wider choice of programming. Up till now, Comcast has been the only game in town, except for Dish and Directv satelite. The Roberts family has a monopoly on television in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware. For they selected a vice president , David Cohen who worked directly under Rendell when he was mayor. Comcast always promised local origination stations in their city franchise. Rendell never allowed them to live up to it. Rendell was asked by local owner Ron Joseph to put channel 7 in their cable lineup, for Philadelphia had nothing. But this fell on deaf ears, for Ron produced 25 hours a week of local total involvement with community events. However, Comcast has been granted 10 years to 99 years of free city tax on their Comcast newly constructed tower at 17th and JFK. While the poor citizens of Philadelphia will experience a tax increase next year in 2007. What's wrong with this picture? Cardinal Bevelaqua has been out of power for a year. Several years ago a former Inquirer columnist, Ralph Cipriano wrote some unfavorable comments about the Cardinal, however some of his comments were right on target. The holier than thou dear Cardinal utilized his political pull to frighten the Philadelphia Inquirer executives that he would boycott and ask his congregants not to the purchase the paper on Sunday and not allow the financially ailling newspapers circulation to be sold in the vicinity of the catholic churches after their Sunday masses. To save face, the Inquirer executives decided to pull the Cipriano story out of the Inquirer, and dismis him from the payroll, and bad mouth him, so he could not get it published in other cities. Ralph Cipriano did sue the Inquirer successfully. A man of his honesty should be returned to a publication in Philadelphia, and any of the above statements that are incorrect should be directed to Ron Joseph RJ who only wants the truth to get through to the Philadelphia area. Opposing viewpoints are welcome to [email protected] anytime .
