Yes, in 1960-62 Ron Joseph RJ had the first program to air on Philadelphia's first commercial UHF station WPCA TV 17. Also, he pioneered selling UHF TV adapter boxes to convert present sets that only had channels 2-13. The converter boxes enabled you to receive channels 14-83.
Only Sunday afternoons at 3pm RJ would re-broadcast his TV show from channel 17 "Spotlight On America" that aired Monday nights at 8 pm and the TV voice of the show would be rebroadcast on WEEZ radio 1590 at 3 pm on Sunday for Philadelphia and Chester listeners. What an idea to get potential viewers for the station and people that did not have an adapter box yet.
On September 18th RJ will host a salute to channel 17's 50 years of broadcasting at the broadcast pioneers luncheon 12 noon at the Bala Cynwyd Country Club. Click on the following link to see images of the early days of channel 17 and RJ’s life
