Once again, who is RJ? Do we get digital channel 25 on FiOS or Xfinity?

Bill W, I see from your bio that you're from outside Philadelphia. That's why you might not know RJ. He's only been around for 40 years. Check his bio and you'll be informed. Yes, TV 25 is on Xfinity and fios in the North Jersey, and Trenton areas plus, over the air in Philadelphia and the suburbs on Digital receivers. I hope this enlightens you.

You need to be more careful with your punctuation, “towernews”. You wrote:

But I think you meant to say:
RJ was a pioneer in 1962 with channel 17, Philadelphia's first UHF. In 1992, he was a pioneer with channel 7, Philadelphia's first low power.

So you’re saying that the shameless self-promoter “RJ” (Ron Joseph, I think), was on channel 17 in 1962? That would have been Percy Crawford’s religious station, WCPA (for “People’s Church of the Air”), which went dark in 1962 after only two years on the air.

WPHL-TV went on in September, 1965.

What on earth would a self-styled Disco king like “RJ” have been doing on a religious station like WCPA?

Hmmm... Come to think of it, “towernews,” punctuation isn’t your most glaring weakness. Accuracy is! (And BTW, is “towernews” just another screen name for “RJ”?)

"Digital Channel 25" is WTVE "Reading", the former analog Channel 51, with programming consisting of mostly infomercials and paid religious programs. This is merely another little-watched, paid advertisement (aka "failed") TV operation that infects most area cable systems thanks to the FCC's "must carry" rules. This "R.J.", whoever he is, will likely pay to have his program on WTVE and its repeaters, just as he pays WVLT to carry his radio show.

Thanks again, FCC, for your wise stewardship of vital communications over our airwaves and your thoughtful interference in the cable system bandwidth I pay so dearly for. What ever would we do without you?

RadioSkeptic, Yes, RJ was part of the Young Peoples Church of the Air when they owned Channel 17 Philadelphia. It was known as WPCA TV, and RJ had a weekly public service program "Spotlight on America". If you read this link you will see the actual promotion for the station and RJ. This is the linkhttp://www.rjdiscousa.com/channel17.html

Musichead, In order to receive WZBN TV channel 25, you must punch in WZBN'S HD Channel, which is channel 50. See, channel 25 is only their virtual channel. Make sure you are using a roof antenna pointing toward Roxborough to receive it.

Didn't RJ also have a TV show on WMCN in Atlantic City just a couple of years ago? I forget the name of it, but I think it was "Electric Dance Revue" or something...

on an old internet radio show i remember the host of that show saying rj would get yelled at for doing the phone ins from the diners

This 'virtual' channel assignment deal completely confuses me. WTVE (formerly analog 51, now digital 25) apparently has low power repeaters, one of which is apparently in Philadelphia. I get WTVE on Cable channel 2 via Comcrap. Now you're telling me that "virtual" channel 25, with FCC call letters W25AW, is actually on digital channel 50? From Roxborough? Using the virtual call letters "WZBN"? With a website that makes it appear that the station is concentrating on Trenton?

My head's ready to explode. How is anyone going to keep track of any of this?

Ultimately, I don't think the confusion will be a factor for me since Channel 25/50 appears to be carried by Comcrap only in NJ. Hence, I'll never see it via cable in Willow Grove.

By the way for the record.....Channel 17 was not the first UHF station on the air in Philly. It was channel 35. in the mid 50's.

Been in the Philly area since 1978. Still doesn't ring a bell. I've been around for 41 years.

I was attempting to watch the RJ show via WZBN's Ustream but the video was down. What's up with that?
