RKO, 1510 changes?

Waiting for details but:

--@bostonradio tweets Blackstrap is working out programming situation, poss changes (new programs) to be announced soon?

--this could be another tempest in teapot but someone on Free Republic MA board said they heard Howie (stuck at Ent 2 yrs more) is to make a major prog announcement today at 4. Mornings? Prog talk added to
RKO? we'll have to see. It could well be nothing major but what's that all about?

bostonradio:
>>Blackstrap is almost ready to announce new programming coming to 1510.Contracts need to be signed still.Maybe later 2day

massgopguy at FR:
>>Major programming change being announced today by Howie at 4:00.

maybe an lma deal with 1510?? Howie to simulcast afternoons, but wouldn't make much sense, maybe 680 to espn and 850 to wrko??

I'm hearing lineup related...

As for a switcheroo would it make sense? RKO and EEI (AM) just about the same signal wise (how they
point at night etc.)

Ent. sacrifices one of the AAF frequencies to put RKO on FM? Talk radio listeners: loyal, "time spent listening".
Rock fans: younger, maybe a more desirable demo.

But Mark is hearing "lineup related". Who knows, maybe Howie to mornings Feinburg to PM drive?

If Kahn/ Wolfe make a big move, hope it is better than the Manansky move.
Watched Dale Arnold covering for Tom Caron on NESN pre-game show yesterday. Dale is a pro. The only thing in 20+ years in Boston TV and radio that was not high quality was Dale doing baseball play by play on Sox radio when Dave O Brien was off doing ESPN

How much is Howie making from his limited syndication? Would he go to mornings and give that up?

Latest from Mark (@bostonradio on twitter): No Howie in mornings, but HUGE changes coming. Is that enough to make the prog. talkers get excited? (but who knows)

Headline on WRKO site
Listen live at 4pm today for a major WRKO programming announcement

Could be big
Keep in mind if Howie DID go to mornings--and Mark is hearing it won't happen--his affiliates would be running their own (hopefully) lucrative local morning shows. Would they run HC on tape delay? "Charlie and Ernie in the morning on WVMT Burlington, delayed Howie Carr at 3"? But again Mark seems to have the inside track
and he's hearing no time slot shift for Fried Clam Man

This should be interesting because I don't think Dial Global would have ended it's relationship with Santos if they didn't have something in the works to get their programming cleared in Boston. Even though 1510 had a limited audience that is better than not having your programming on in a top 10 market. Despite the disagreement with Santos they would not have cut off the nose to spite their face

RKO has to do something in the mornings, Fienberg can't go it alone. They are not going to stop selling time to Armstrong. So if Progressive Talk is coming to RKO, I could see them moving McPhee to 7p-10p, delaying Savage and running Ed Shultz in midday. I would be surprised if they added a syndicated morning show like Bill Press.

I will be tuning in at 4pm for sure

They could also do Feinberg & McPhee in mornings, then maybe E. Schulz middays as you say, McPhee to nights or maybe something like McPhee 11a-1p then Schultz. They probably do stay local in mornings

What they should do is put Laura Ingram back on from 9am-Noon like they recently used to. Put Mcphee on Noon-3pm. Howie Carr 3pm-6pm, "America's Radio News" 6pm-9pm, Rusty Humpries 9pm-Midnight,
Midnight-4am "America Tonight with Kate Delaney"
4am-5am "Talk Radio Countdown with Doug Stephan"
That's what they should do. Do like that. That way (most Talk shows) local/National will be LIVE!!

But whatever they plan to do, I hope they can succeed

I have to ask, do call into a lot of these shows? Unless you want to call, which I believe less than 1% of the people who listen to talk radio are callers, why do you care if a show is delayed a few hours? As long as it is the same day, I really don't care. Just curious? Given the financial situation at RKO I don't think Money Matters Radio will be leaving the RKO airwaves anytime soon unless Armstrong stops sending the checks.

They get $$ for running Barry Armstrong.
McPhee--don't know where she goes. Mark S was guessing Schulz gets 12-3 (what does Michele get,
an hour 11-noon? Or 7 pm?)
America's Radio News--doubtful but who knows.

How's this for a guess: Entercom is going to announce that it will simulcast
Carr's program on 97.7? I think the signal at Carr's house in Wellesley
would probably be OK. If they did such a thing, do you think they could get
Carr to agree to stop bad-mouthing the company, its management, and its
broadcast properties?

Now that he knows he'll be gone in 2 yrs--to the exact date--maybe he'll stop badmouthing the company.
A simulcast on 97.7? Who knows but again WAAF makes money and 97.7 helps them get into the Boston
area proper--and I noticed on the Mass. Pike nr Charlton, Worc., 97.7 was doing surprisingly well. Would
they shift that to talk to a) get "younger listeners"/FM fans and b) reach metrowest at night? Again
talk = loyal, time spent listening; rock, younger listeners, desirable demo...would they do it?

97.7 coverage map--yeah it'd hit Wellesley. Howie's complaints may have been on behalf of listeners
who "can't get us west of Kenmore Sq" at night. I'd think his bank account matters more to him
than whether Mrs C and the girls can pick him up... (besides there's WCRN too)

So are you suggesting that Entercom is going to continue to simulcast AAF on 97.7 except from 3p-7p when they will broadcast Carr?

I don't think his second wife and kids listen to the program. I pretty sure they get enough of him at home. One of the daughters has a "real" job and doesn't fill in a call screener anymore
