RKO: Manning out , McPhee in.

Michelle has been alluding to something happening since before the first of the year, I figured with Savage and TRN at war, they were going to get her in place just in case Savage bolted.

The sad thing was I was starting to listen to Manning more. Graham and Severino were rubbing me the wrong way.

Well with Howie out the door in about 600 days, she could take over PM drive when Howie walks.

PS They already pulled his bio off the website, Class act WRKO.

I wonder if they will let him say Aloha?

What the heck happened? I liked Mannings show. I also liked McPhee on WTKK and I like Jenn on Saturday on WRKO from 1-3pm. Isn't there any room for all three of them? Was there any warning this was happening? I didn't hear Charlies show this week, (I was away) did he say anything about this? I was not happy when they took Noon to 1pm away from his show. I wish them all luck but also wish I could listen to the three of them. All three of them tell it like it is and that's what I like in my show hosts. I'm a Howie fan too, always have been. Started to listen to talk radio in my younger years back with the master ... Jerry Williams.

Good luck Charlie, I hope you land somewhere else on the dial where I can still hear you.

So they screwed Manning over and wouldn't let him go out in style.

Now the next question will be, if Michelle brings good numbers to the table, will they throw
Barry Armstrong under the bus and put her on from Noon to 3 PM?

BTW does WRKO run a disclaimer that "Lunch Money" is a paid program?

I know they do the boilerplate S.E.C. disclaimer about who works for whom, who is not affiliated with each other, etc, but I never listened long enough to determine if WRKO
is complying with FCC regulations and clearly identifying the sponsor of what is essentially a 54 minute commercial for the Armstrong Advisory Group.

No. Armstrong owns the bus. Money talks loudly and ratings whisper.

I hope WTKK brings Charley Manning on board. I really liked listening to Charley. The only thing that stopped me from listening to him was the poor radio reception that I got for WRKO when in my car. Now, Charley on a station with a decent signal would be a very good thing!

Manning was um um um terrible, he couldn't um um read copy, couldn't um um read the newspapers, um um um um um um, couldn't pronounce words, um um um um, and he actually um um had a voice that made him sound oh so gay, I know several people who after listening to him thought for sure he was gay. Howie didn't even listen to him, goes to show you how bad he was.

Howie can't tell the difference between 100,000 miles and 100,000 SQUARE miles on copy he reads several times daily, nor can he get the same phone numbers he reads at the top of the hour right.

So please don't make Howie out to be some radio God.

Manning looks like David Brudnoy compared to Howie

And who cares what anyones sexual orientation is. Let's come into the 21st century here.

There are plenty of talented gay people in this market, some with much better "pipes" than the avowed hetrosexuals.

Manning is straight and married I believe. Agreed about who cares about sexual orientation.

Howie is funny but he does indeed have pron. problems with certain words (as I mentioned on comments to his Herald column today), the bit about square miles, and he used to say you could "call to leave a number" on the Chump Line, instead of
"call to leave a message". But I don't mind those things. Now, Mayor Menino...ah, sorry Howie,
but I know Tom Menino and you are no Mayor Menino! :)

Sounds like Sweet Child of Mine is her opening theme...talking about Pats & Rex Ryan ("do you think it was a good call to bench Welker, or do you think it was just distracting? I think we should bench some of these politicians who do something stupid...like letting out Dominic Cinelli?")

So Manning had a few months to gain traction and didn't get there and they axed him. You could argue the show needed more time to develop and gain a following. Meanwhile, the morning show has had 2 or three years and doesn't seem to be going places. Personally, I like Tom and Todd ok and listen from time to time, but from a programming point of view I would think they would try to boost the morning ratings pronto so that mid-days has a better lead in. If the morning show was stronger maybe that would calm Howie down as well.

I also think Howie makes a mistake trashing WRKO's signal and AM radio. Other than WBZ, he's on the best signal in market and has all the affiliates to fill in the gaps. If he ends up on WTKK and loses the affliates, he will have way less coverage than he has now. Also wonder how well his show would translate to AM drive. Especially having to go up against some strong competitors on WBZ, WEEI, WBZ-FM, Matty, Loren and Wally, etc. In PM drive he has the field more to himself and has his loyal audiance in their routine. Plus I would guess a lot of his affliates would not ditch their local morning drive shows to run his.

She is awful. How sad the once mighty RKO has stooped to this.

She sounds pretty darn good

I think this says it all! 2 people listen to the same show...two strong opinions! LOL

I was just commenting on her voice not sounding as shrill as it did on WTTK.

Maybe it is the studio, the mic, the processing, the lack of bandwidth, I don't know, but on the stream she sounded pretty good.

Did anyone listen to it over the air?

Especially since Howie is on the only station in the market which is going to pay him anywhere near what he wants, so I would bet on him, when push comes to shove, re-upping on WRKO. WTTK has figured out they don't need him to deliver numbers and make money, and Eagan and Braude make less combined than Howie by himself. I think WTTK figures they dodged a bullet (they fell over themselves bailing on their offer) when the judge ruled that Howie didn't understand his own contract, so they'll give him a wide berth next time around. Rush Radio would be an option, provided Howie wants to work for a fraction of what he now pays in taxes. It would also make the signal issues he harps on look, shall we say, somewhat disengenuous.

Howie is left with two options. Leave the market and salvage his ego, or come up with some plausible story about why he's staying at WRKO. Offhand, I can think of a couple of folks who'll buy into any fantasy he runs out there, but Maloney will go absolutely bonkers. For the right money, Howie will gladly endure the Maloney barbs and arrows.

Regards,
TSB
