'RKO ran a Howie rewind tonight...

Not sure if they're dropping Savage and/or Doyle but after the Sox game tonight WRKO re-ran the first
couple hours of Howie's show from earlier in the day. (Just as well, because I had missed parts of the show...)
A "radio rewind" just like what WTKK does with Barnicle at midnight. Shades of things to come? Are they
gonna go from Sox to Howie reruns regularly now?

If anything, four "talker" buttons on my Walkman actually had local talk from midnight to 1 am tonight:
WRKO (Howie rerun), WEEI ("Red Sox Wrapup"), WBZ (Leveille) and WTKK (Barnicle)

A Howie Carr rerun is like being trapped in a nightclub with Sanjaya Shekar Malakar onstage.

Wikipedia sayeth: The invention of the rerun is generally credited to Desi Arnaz. Blame him since WRKO accepts no personal responsibility for this incessant b.s.

While I like listening to Howie I'm sick to death of the retreads, us regular listeners are being barraged with retreads, this morning I tuned in at 5:40 to hear Doug Stephen and it was a rewind of the felon's show from yesterday.

I question if Mike Savage is now being censored.?

I like some of the info he presents, unlike the regular clean pablum presented on most news shows. He talks about the enemy within this country.

I guess I also have to be politically correct.

ok, how intelligent is that to take a show that is getting zero ratings and re-running it? Jason & Julie can't find any good infomercials to run? Casablanca, send them old Jerry Williams outtakes or airchecks, quick!

What about an emergency exit in the back, Joe?
You and Ryan Seacrest could escape together.

You're kidding, right?

Howie's show isn't getting "zero ratings", it beat Jay Severin in the most recent 25-54s.
Finneran and Feinburg are getting lackluster ratings, however.

See this:
http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/messengerBlog/?p=298

Note the numbers Howie got. Leads Severin by over a point. I can't say the actual number, but the number
quoted in the 25-54s in that article is equal to about 8 times the number AAR Boston got (admittedly in
the 12 plus).
Hint: The Jackson ____ (pop/soul group). That was roughly HC's number.

Severin: down 22 per cent
Barnicle: up 33 per cent
Feinburg: down 71 per cent
Carr: up 2 per cent, but already fairly high
Paul Sullivan (get well soon!) up 62 per cent.

I wasn't talking about the Carr re-runs, Raccoon, my intent was re-running Finneran.

Sorry that I didn't clarify, I was up all night writing real articles, the kind that pay. This board is just for fun and therapy. I'm delivering the therapy to those in need.

Seems like a pretty obvious promotional move to me, especially since they run promos for his show during the game. If you assume that the Sox audience has a lot of folks who don't normally listen to the station, it makes sense to promote Carr to them, since his show has the most mass appeal, and especially since Carr numbers are convertible into cash, whereas Savage and Doyle numbers aren't.

IIRC, Avi Nelson (or maybe it was Bruds) first came to local notice by being put on immediately after Sox games.

30 days has September, April, June, and November. All the rest eat peanut butter, except for grandma, she drives a Stingray.

Quickly, look up and read the thread title. Works even when you're tired.

Glad to be of assistance.

Well if they wind up re-running the Felon, hoo boy...though I think I read someone here said they heard
a Felon re-wind instead of Doug Stephan (5-6 am hour) the other day. Howie was pretty good listening
yesterday during that re-wind, including a talk with Fox's Brian Kilmeade (book about sports) and
discussion of "losers" (33 year old men who still live in their parents' basement, don't have a job,
don't help around the house, sit and play video games, etc.)

WTKK used to re-run Severin late at night for the same reason (build up his daytime audience by letting people hear what he sound like....and maybe
too cheap to get a syndie show) and they're re-running an hour of Barnicle at midnight.

>>Carr numbers are convertible into cash, whereas Savage and Doyle numbers aren't.
Ca-ching! And it's local, even if delayed by 7 or 8 hours...

WRKO used to put Tom Leykis on after the games; I think Leykis was 10 am to 2 pm and they'd re-run it
once the game ended, thus resulting in this promo: "Submit to the talkmaster! After the game on WRKO..."
(Leykis had thought it kind of funny that talk hosts were nicknamed "talkmasters"...)

Playing to its strengths, a possible WRKO lineup:
6-10 am Red Sox talk
10 am - 2 pm: Best of Howie Carr
2-3 pm One hour per day of the audiobook version of Brothers Bulger
3-7 pm Today's Howie Carr show
7-10:30 pm Red Sox
10:30 pm-2 am Replay of Howie Carr
2-6 am Replay of Sox game :)

TSB, look and read my post and the other post (Rockababy) about the Finneran re-run. Thank you.

==================================================================================

Here's a better lineup:

5AM - 10 AM Casablanca: Why I Hate WRKO

10 AM - 12 Noon Julie Kahn Discusses Radio in 2007

Noon - 3 PM - Jason Wolfe talks about building two sports stations in one city and ignoring all the others

3 PM - 6 PM Sox Talk

6 PM - 10 Red Sox Baseball

10 PM - 5 AM Baseball game replayed...and replayed...and replayed

I don't think a show like Finneran's would play all that well in the late evening, but it probably would play pretty well 5-6a, especially if you're trying to promote 6-10A
And I'm a little surprised that you're still drinking the Maloney Kool-Aid, since my contacts in the ad biz (ok, one's my wife, who's an advertising/marketing veep at one of Boston's largest advertisers) say the ad folks think that Finneran's trending up in the key demos was pretty good news for 'RKO and, for the moment, obviously justify replacing Scotto. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but Maloney calling Finneran a flop after 6 weeks just shows how far he's departed from reality-based commentary.

I caught the Kilmeade interview during the afternoon show, and it was pretty interesting. Probably sold some books, too.

WTKK used to re-run Severin late at night for the same reason (build up his daytime audience by letting people hear what he sound like....and maybe

Not exactly the same thing, since they were, and are, pitching them to folks who are already listeners to talk on the station. But, considering the quality of most of the junk coming off the bird at night, probably as good as anything else they could put there.

TSB

Hahahah. Well, they'd save some money not having to pay folks, wouldn't they?

Sadly, Jerry Williams got "out of the business" and not sure we can yet plug into his frequency but I am sure it would have 'universal' appeal. :)

I really hate to burst everyones bubble, again, but it was a re-run of Howie because the router that Savage comes down on was producing static and feedback. Not sure why, but the Howie re-run was a last minute replacement.

Sorry

No... you mean it was just a technical problem and not a conspiracy from the same people who brought us Lee Harvey Oswald and the 9/11 conspiracy? Surely, you don't think we're dumb enough to beleive that!
