How is he going to get syndicated to a market where nobody has ever heard his name?
And the "Regular Guys" were a household name, here?
No, but if Cumulus had them on in Atlanta, they had a home station.
1. Russ doesn't even have that right now. So let's say they are trying to syndicate him- they have NO (as in zero, none) PPM track record to sell him on (IIRC, PPM didn't go active until November, and Russ was blown out in Early December, so he has ONE month in the PPM world to use). i could swear (although I could be completely wrong) that Russ's actual audience is rather small, but freakishly devoted. Stations that may want more cume and less TSL, make Russ a bad fit. We don't know how PPM might treat the RMS.
2. Russ's ratings had been falling. I linked to a post from November that said he had dropped to 6th M25-54. Why would a station that needs help go after a show that hadn't even been dominating their own daypart in their home market?
3. With no home station, no studio, no tech center to send out syndication signal, etc. Can be created (a la Kidd Kraddick) just more time and expense...borne by who?
4. The Regular guys have cumulus shoving them down DFW's throat. Russ doesn't yet have the same. Until he gets picked up, any syndication will have to come through Russ et al convincing some guy in (insert minor market) that he should stop paying his guys and use Russ. Sales people/"affiliation relations" also cost money. Is Russ going to hire some guy to call on stations in Abilene, Waco, etc to put him on? Then how does the RMS make money from being on in Abilene? If you're in a smaller market, and owned by and chain of broadcasters, don't you think they're more likely to syndicate their OWN talent, rather than using Russ? CC, Cumuls, Citadel, Emmis, etc all have their own jocks they can syndicate. Until Russ gets back on somewhere, why should I, Waco station owner put him on? What do I get from Russ (programming) that I couldn't get from ABC radio networks, premiere, Westwood, etc...
Look, I'm not a Russ 'hater'. I've got a lot of respect for the guy, and realize what he's done in this market. I just don't think it's a 'no brainer' that some station is going to put him back on. And that if he does get back on, that he's suddenly going to bounce back not just to where he was (6th m25-54) but back to #1...
And yes, CBS COULD put him back on, but do you really want to have a non-sports AM drive show AND a non-sports PM drive show on your so called sports station? It justs boggles the mind....
