RO selling off the Mix signals

With Bbn based in charlotte it’s a great compliment to 93.5. Am 930 . That gnn network keeps filling signal holes. If headed towards Chester I guess you have 103.5 until you leave Lauren’s.

Since urban 1 is keeping the calls could another purchase be coming? The WLNK call was for the Link format why would urban one need them to launch a mix on another stick or to prevent someone from taking the mix name. Unless they are keeping the complete intellectual property.

If I remember correctly, when WLNK 107.9 The Link debuted I'm thinking I remember it being said it was the only station known as The Link. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Beasley had a Modern AC on translators in Fort Myers with the Link name from 2013-16, but well after WLNK launched. I do not recall any other station that utilized the name

Interestingly, Audacy still owns the trademark on the brand name.

"The Link" was a fantastic name when it launched in the late 90s - the internet was hot - and the name fit the format through the personality-driven/talk years. The imaging was absolutely perfect.

In the end I understood why in the 2020s they abandoned it for "Mix" even though I was very, very sad to see it go.

I bet 100.9 & 99.3 were already being prepped for a sale when the format swaps occurred.

Mix was simply "parked" there as a stop gap.

The format swaps make more sense now. They kept the strong spoken word brands (Fan and WBT), retained local clearance for their national Praise brand, kept their popular Urban AC (very much a core competency for the company format wise) and dumped the odd man out that was difficult to bundle with their other brands (Mix).

I bet they are looking to unload 1110, too.

I would love to see someone pick up the Adult Contemporary mantle locally.

$5 million combined is a very good good price for that pair of signals. Radio One made the right business decision. Too bad for the listening public that the new programming is going to stink. I'd rather stare at the wall than listen to BBN!

with bbn moving to 100.9 what will happen to W229CF at 93.7? it's not a big footprint but it appears to have good metro coverage.
or is it tied to 930? does bbn have more than one program (like emf does with k-love and air1?)

BBN has a Spanish version of their programming.

I hope they turn in the 93.7 translator, then WFBC B93.7 out of the GSP market, can be heard clear in the CLT GASTONIA Rock Hill area once again.

I don’t think this was planned. R1 just submitted a request to upgrade 100.9 to a C3. Why spend the money on an engineer and FCC fees if you’re about to flip it?

I’m sure R1 is losing money on Mix with the high talent costs, especially considering the ratings drop and inferior signals. They can make some money by selling the stations, and concentrate on more profitable formats. I could also see them selling 1110, and even 610. They moved the “host” to 105.3 HD2 a few years back, so they don’t really need the AM signal.

With them keeping the WLNK calls, they’re either going to park them somewhere or they’re acquiring another signal for the Mix format. Not sure what they could acquire, as all of the full market signals are owned by Beasley, iHeart or Radio One except for 95.7, and I don’t think Dave Lingafelt is going to ever sell. Could Beasley or iHeart sell an underperforming signal to R1? I doubt it. There’s WOLS, which has a very similar contour map to WPZS’s upgraded signal. Don’t know what their situation is. Only other option is a signal from another market that they could “move in”.

I don't think they're moving, but adding. I don't know about 93.7, possibly tied to 930. Yes, they have multiple languages, if that's what you mean.
