Another example of Proffit-sharing in the broadcasting industry....

sorry...couldn't resist.

Best of luck in his next gig.

Why is it that shortly after a certain person gets hired at a place a lot of other people get fired and eventually get replaced by a circle of this persons friends.I wonder if anyone comes to mind and if so then there must be something to my thought

Jarnigan had nothing to do with this one. As so often happens, someone made some very poor and very public choices. Philosophical differences ensued.

It's been rumored that he would replace Big R at WIMZ for over a year now, so who knows when or if.

I may be wrong, but didn't Jim Kelley used to be a dj at WIMZ? I remember they had some guy whose last name was Kelley doing nights because he'd do the "Kelley's Lost Classic" every night at 10:00. If I'm thinking of the same person - Jim Kelley - I think he left WIMZ to go over to The Bone. I also think that back in the late 80's/early 90's Big R was a dj at WIMZ also then left for Oldies 102.

Same guy, he was PD back then for a time as well during the Phil Williams era.

That's what I was thinking. It might do WIMZ some good then to get Jim Kelly back as PD. During the Phil Williams days, mainly the early to mid 1990's, WIMZ was sounding it's best. They had better variety with the music and, of course, they had Phil. Back then you could hear just about anything that fell under the category of rock n roll on WIMZ. They played stuff as far back as the early 60's all the way up to some newer more current stuff. Now days, instead of being "Knoxville's Classic Rock" they need to say that they're "Knoxville's Aerosmith, Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, and Bob Seeger station" because it seems like that's ALL they play anymore. Back when Jim was there, in one set of music you could hear everyone from Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Crosby Stills Nash & Young - all together mixed in with newer stuff from Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Metallica (well it was new back then). WIMZ need to really do something BAD to freshen up a little if they want to compete with Jack, 98.7, and satellite radio.

ive not listened to WIMZ very much in quite a few years due to moving to a different location , and not been able to pick them up that good now. but back in 1993-1996 like wimz fan said, they were my favorite station on the dial. i have got a bunch of recorded stuff from 1993, though they not a whole lot of airchecks, i got some. they are mostly station ids, but they are a few with djing and commercials and all. anyways, back then, i could turn on wimz, and i could could hear a rock block weekend, shane cox all request show, tennesee homegrown on sunday nights, chuck underwood late at night, or ROCK LINE USA and hear everything from dream theater, tom petty, jefferson airplane, beatles, journey, crosby stills nash and young, and phil williams classic 9 at 9... man i miss those days.. i hope wimz finds its place again..

They still do rock block weekends, but they play the same artists over and over again. Rock Line still comes on Wednesday nights. Alice Cooper does nights (11:00p.m. to 3 or 4 a.m.) and he plays some great lost stuff. But that's a national show though so what he plays don't necessarily go along with what the station plays. I remember Tennessee Homegrown and the Classic 9 at 9. How about the Sunday Night 6 Pack? Remember that. 6 classic albums back to back. WIMZ done away with that about four years ago and replaced it with the Superstar Concert Series. I think the Tennessee Homegrown thing would really workout great to bring it back now. The River used to be a great outlet for alot of local musicians to get their music on the radio but now that station's gone and WIMZ could really fill a gap by doing that. I'm with you - I wish they could get back on track. They need to dig deep into that music library of theirs and get some of the good stuff out. Heck - dust off the turntables and get the 8 track player out if they have too. We would like some variety.
