Road Trip .. Electric 94.9

Had a nice road trip listening to Electric 94.9 over the airwaves. They have a killer 187,00 watt signal in both Vertical and Horizontal power,, I could pick up this station all the way from Kentucky, to the South Carolina state line when Kiss 95.1 Charlotte Squashed it out. This is a great CHR, considering it covers mostly rural moutain comunities... I heard a new Urban station in the area too called Jammin 103.9, but with a much weaker signal. Im glad electric streams now.

Ummm, Jammin 103.9 and 92.3 has been around for years.
Electric 94.9 is indeed a great CHR and they've just recently started streaming as well 8)
While their signal is pretty powerful (as is Kiss 95.1 Charlotte) I think it's only 100,000 watts strong...just at a high altitude. Either way, it travels for miles and miles and miles. They may soon be moving their tower in such a way that they'll not only cover the Tri Cities area more clearly, but will also be more easily accessible in the Asheville, NC area, and parts of Knoxville (where one can easily pick them up with a car stereo).

Wouldnt Surprise me, Electric 99.3 used to air live preaching on sunday mornings. This is conservative Tenn moutain comunities they serve, if it helps them serve the comunity and give's them a good name in the area then more power to em. It probably makes some of the advertiser's happy too.

I noticed the B-93.7 seemed to have a weaker than usual signal, I had trouble with Hot 98.1 The Beat in Spartanburg, it used to come in good in the area, looks like Ashville has a LPFM or translator on 98.1 now. I did catch the Charlotte Rhythmic on 97.9, Power 98,, it sounded decent.

They also air Dawson McAllister on Sunday nights.

Well this is the Bible Belt, so many of Electric's female listeners and kids probably attend Church at times. Dawsom Mccalister actual airs on many stations, even FLZ in Tampa carries them. Dawson helps kids with serious problems and gives them a mentor, and even though he isnt directly associated with the station, the kids are more likely to take his advice hearing it on their favorite POP station, than from some governmant entity. I listen to Dawson sometimes, when you hear the problems these kids face, it makes your own problems seem like nothing.

Yeah, even though they are small and don't get a lot of mentions, WXIS "Jammin 92.3 and 103.9" (www.jammin9231039.com) has been around for years now. They are a class A signal (103.9) licensed to Erwin, TN (near the Tri-Cities). And they also have a translator in Johnson City at 92.3 that provides the bulk of their listeners. The station has actually been doing CHR longer than WAEZ. They have been a rhythmic CHR for several years now, but previously in the late 90's they were mainstream CHR and known as "X104".

On a sidenote, the Tri-Cities had a third short lived CHR a couple of years back. WEYE 104.3 Surgoinsville, TN, which is currently classic country, did a mainstream CHR format as "Hot 104.3" for about a year when it first debuted. They actually sounded pretty decent, but the format didn't last long.

But yeah, I agree, "Electric 94.9" is a good CHR for the market it serves. And their signal is very good. They are actually liscensed to Greeneville, TN, which is about 40 miles south of the Tri-Cities, so they have a decent signal into Knoxville as well (which is about 60 miles from Greeneville). And now that Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Tri-Cities all have class C CHR signals again, I'm really loving it. I work in Knoxville and can hear all 3 CHRs (WAEZ Tri Cities, WWST Knoxville, and WDOD Chattanooga) in certain parts of town. And all are decent stations. I think my favorite is WDOD "96-5 the Mountain" in Chattanooga. They are fun to listen to, and like WAEZ, they are owned by a smaller group and aren't as cookie cutter and formulaic sounding as many CHR's now days.
