> Country took a big hit in this book. But, Star Country got "chopped" off. Star lost more than YYD did and Star Country lost both men and women, while YYD only lost men to ROV. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. YYD is only 2 points shy now of Star Country. Let the battle begin!

I just wonder if they will keep the Bull? Call me stupid, but CC has this rogue signal on 104.9 that really can't pair up with a Lynchburg station. The Bull is basically doing one thing (I think):

It lowers Star country's ratings a *little* bit, which gives 'YYD a little more of a fighting chance.

I still wonder about sports talk on FM...plus, the simulcast AMers don't do too terribly well, anyway.

Why not FM talk? The ball is in CC's court. WLNI has no signal in Roanoke, so why not piss off 105.9 and drop the FM talk on 106.1, moving JJS to the much more powerful 104.9 stick?

CC had a roanoke market single only going back to 2001/2002 it will not work. You have WSLC with a one hundered thousand watt stick and then CC Bull is like 3000 watts. It can not be a player. I dont care how many shows yo give slam duncan to do from Nashville it will not work. Flip tat station to full blown fm sports talk and bammmmmmmmmmm your in and theres one less counntry in the market, just as it should be.

Star needs to stay on thier side of the big ol' mountain and YYD needs to sta on their side of the mountain. YYD needs to be a Lynchburg based country station. I did it once and i bet you i can do it aain! wanna take that on one CC!

you could have 10 cc small stations play country in Roanoke, and they will not make it, can't be heard and CC is not gonna pay the money to support it with marketing. You can only shake so many hands and kiss so many babies and from what i hear about Joel Dearing, even thats out of the quesiton

>Wow! What an angry post? Now, first, The Bull (WZBL) is 14,000 watts, not 3,000 as it was when it was Magic. Second, I'm not pointing fingers but you sound like someone who works for Star Country OR a disgruntled former employee of Star Country.

Now, let's talk about your claims about how Star Country should stay on their side of the mountain and YYD should stay on their side. If I remember right, I saw on Star's website about how their coming to Cattle Annie's. Wait a minute, I believe that's on YYD's side of the mountain. So, that you stay there and we'll stay here stuff isn't going to work.

It sounds to me like you're scared now that YYD is closing in on Star Country and you sound embarrased to say that you were beat by a station in Lynchburg that is not 100,000 watts. All I have to say is...

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN! Because what's happened now that Star has fallen from their comfy top spot is awakened a sleeping GIANT! Yes, I do mean GIANT! So, if you know anyone that works there or perhaps you do, I don't know if you do, but I would tell them that they have every right to be scared because they have no idea what's to come this year!

well looking at the WYYD web site, I don't see YYD heading towards Raonoke and they never did. WYYD will never never never never beat WSLC. It will not happen. They have too many things going for them. Their owner is not afraid to spend money on Marketing and Promotions. Enough said, Clear Channel will not do the same! so give you live in your little dream world and think you can take out SLC and while your doing get your resume ready and tell that morning show on yyd to do the same. thats the biggest mess of a morning show i've ever heard!

Joe, Joe ( as i put my hand to the top of my forehead)

You know me well enough to know that if I've got something to say to you, I'll sign my name to it. Why I do agree with most of the post here,And I don't think WYYD will ever win in the Market again, I know Clear Channel has changed its way of markting in many different markets. They are not as tight as they used to be. Personally, I don't care what happens with Roanoke/Lynchburg. I have no bad feelings towards that place. I kept the station in the game, we didn't get killed under me there and I'm dam proud of what I did as program director of WYYD. That's old news now, Joe, Im the guy who gave you another chance and you go on a board and starting trying to bash my name. Joe you let me down! Lycnhburg was a great 3 years of my life and I wouldn't trade a minute of it! No Joe. You have my perosonal email address and my cell phone number. You see me online everyday, so the next time you have something to say..please call me and be big enough to say it to me. Now go your sweating! I had to do that!

I've been watching this post for a while now, and I need to say something. As a former Cheap Channel employee---no, I don't like them. No I don't like Joel Dearing. But he does have that station sounding good. You have to give him credit. He's got an airstaff that actually HAS a personality, and it's about time that Star Country started feeling that. Robynn can only carry that station for so long before the communities of Roanoke and Lynchburg start to fall in love with a new group. I think WYYD has shown they can hold their own, and they just might be a force to be reckoned with.
Edited by VARTV on 02/05/06 01:46 PM.

I don't know Joel Deering, Don't care to know Joel Deering, I've met the guy one time almost 3 years ago in Lynchburg I have nothing against Joel or anybody at CC/Burg, as I said, I loved my time there and woudln't trade it for the world. Where I do have a problem is some young punk that calls him self "Opie" calling my name out when he doesn't know me or doesn't know anything about me, execpt what he's heard from the traffic dept at CC lynchburg. So Opie ifyou if you have something to say to me, I think you can find me my email is [email protected]. The difference between you and I opie, is that I sign my name, I don't call my self OPIE or sign my post, radioguy87. again, I welcome your thoughts opie! get real! Hey, you know what is interesting and kind of funny, Chris? No one called your name out. He asked if the initials of the other guy was COK. Given that the other guy hasn't responded and you have, I would venture to say the other guy was YOU. And radioguy87 seems to have hit a sore subject with you. If some punk kid has gotten you this worked up, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he will probably be around awhile. Clear Channel likes the smart ones.
Edited by VARTV on 02/05/06 01:45 PM.

No I beg to differ with you, He asked if that person who was postings initials were COK, and trying to say that it was me. The reason I responded is because i stand up for myself and my initials are C O K for Chris O'Kelley and yes I did program WYYD and do not like people making up trash and trying to call me out when you don't know me. I have nothing bad to say about WYYD or its people. I have my thoughts about theprogramming of WYYD but thats not my problem anymore, i've got my own cluster of stations to deal with. I enjoyed my 3 years there and to this date I still go back to Lynchburg 3 to 4 times a year to visit and see friends there. I don't go around bashing Clea Channel I'm smart enough to know that in todays crazy radio world, I may end up working for Clear Channel again. This guy doesn't know me, doesn't know anything about me, much less enough to be able to say that i am the type of perosn that would post and talking trash about his station and company. and as I said in my first post, If i've got somethig to say I will say it and sign my name to it just as I have here over and over today. Ask around about my name in the Country world and I don't think you will find anybody that will say im the type to do that,

Second, I was just correcting some things you had to say. To get on this board and totally bash another station is absurd. You have not been here in a few years and you do NOT know what has changed around here. So, to get on here to begin with and say that WYYD will never beat Star Country is crazy. I will tell you but will not disclose the details for fear of someone in Star Country's world seeing this, but we DO have marketing money this year. We have already planned out what we are going to do to market against Star Country. So, yes I am the punk kid that DID NOT call you out like you said, I was just defending the station that I am proud to work for. "cspots", thanks for the kind words about WYYD. That means a lot to know that someone is listening and likes what they hear. I will let Joel know you said so.

Thanks!

Opie--I'm just saying what's true. I think WYYD has a fighting chance to regain it's status in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market. Sure, it's taken a beating over the years, but it's BACK. And that's a force to be reckoned with.

Chris--you DID bash the station that you say you are so fond of. Read the very first post you wrote. Oh, I'm sorry, that star98music wrote. And you realize, that the majority of people aren't going to know who COK is. You're the only one that brought your name into this. No one else in the radio world is going to know. Those initials could very well have been: Calvin Oscar Kennedy for all anyone knows. It seems like to me, you merely reacted to being "found out." Chill out, man. And BTW, I don't need to ask around the Country World. I already know, dude. And you do too. Say, how many times have you moved in the past couple of years?

Opie--you're right, man. That's weird. OK. Well, for the record, that's my post above. I wonder what that is about. Interesting.

Wow, hateful much? Kinda looks like you have a jealousy problem with Slam. hasn't slam been a market staple like Robynn for years? If you ask me, I'd say that was a damn good move by CC. And you can't tell a station to stay on their side of the mountain. YYD has an awesome signal all over the cars in Roanoke--where most of your listeners are anyways. If your listeners can pick you up on a consistant basis, you can't ignore them. YYD isn't, and neither is Star. You'd be an idiot to do that. Can you imagine how much damage you would do to your listeners to start treating them differently? Especially in the Roanoke Lynchburg market. I wouldn't do it. Not for a million bucks. "you could have 10 cc small stations play country in Roanoke,

Frist of all "CSPOTS" and Im sure thats the name your parents gave you. Be a big man or woman and sign your name to the post and not some screen name to hide behind.

and as far as I know, Calvin Oscar Kennedy never programmed WYYD so I don't think they were calling out Calvin. IA knew what Opie Joe was saying and that that why, I post my real name and real email address on here because when I have something to say I say it with my name on it. Unlike you and Opie Joe who post behind Chicken Little names. I can tell you this, you don't know much about me and thats a fact cowboy!

As far as my moving, yea I made a bad move after I left Lycnhburg and I got the hell out there, not afraid to say that, but Im now where Im gonna be for a while, thats in writing. And just so you know, Where I am now, i have 4 stations that I am a part of on a day to day and I have bigger fish to fry than to give a rip aobut what happens with WYYD! Before my 3 years in Lynchburg, I spent 4 years in Ft myers and Miami FL, 2 Years in Ocean City Maryland, and 12 years prior to that in Greenville Spartanburg. So if you think that make one bad move is the end of the of world and makes me a just a peice of crap, then so be it. When you've been in this business more than 5 years and have to make a move or two then come back and talk to me. If your gonna make it in this buisness, Your gonna move, that is if you ever wanna get out of lynchburg, Im sure yall are Madsion Heights people.

So you Lychuburg kiddies put down the markers and have your milk and cookies before bed ok. and by the way Opie Joe, when the morning team got blown out at the Bull, how long did it take you to get it on this site and allaboutcountry.com

> Look Chris, I'm not going to play these child-ish "he said, she said" crap with you. Just admit, you got caught and you're upset about that. It's no BIG deal. It's not like it's the end of the world! Second, yes I did post something here on radio-info.com but who doesn't post ads from allaccess. I have no idea what you're talking about referring to allaboutcountry.com. Anyway, I'm through with this because in my opinion, you're acting like a child!

By the way, I'm not from Madison Heights. I'm from North Carolina! Not that you needed to know that but again I was just correcting your facts...as I often do in your posts! :)

CHRIS--If you think signing your name to something makes you a bigger person, be my guest. If I wanted you to know who I was, I would have put my name. I think you know who I am though. As for the whole COK thing, the name was merely a suggestion. I would be horrified if someone actually named their child Calvin Oscar Kennedy. Chris, do you honestly think anyone cares? Or even keeps track of all the PDs that go through the area. If you haven't made a "dent" in a station; a good dent that is; then no one is ever going to know who you are. Well, no, I take that back. I suppose people could remember you as the guy that ran WYYD into the ground. Because you certainly didn't help it during your stay here. Again it's interesting to me that you say you were fond of this station. Because if you truly were, you wouldn't mention Madison Heights in such a negative fashion. Unless you're, again, just bitter. Maybe the diaries that fell into the hands of MH residents were hateful towards your station? From what I hear, they love WYYD now.

OPIE--I too am from NC. Raleigh area. Welcome to Virginia. I'll have to listen to you next time I am through Roanoke. Just keep doing what you're doing. This guy clearly has a major chip on his shoulder. I would too if I got fired for tanking a station.
