The Bayliss Foundation which is holding the affair is a very worthy organization since it raises money for scholarships for students of radio. (http://www.baylissfoundation.org) I just wish they would be honoring someone beside Joel Hollander who made the most unpopular format change in radio history and did it in a cruel and heartless way by firing people over the phone and refusing to allow for a farewell show.

and finally tonight, as reported by Katie Couric:

CBS Radio Appoints Dan Mason as President/CEO

Dan Mason is appointed President/CEO of CBS Radio overseeing the company's 144 radio outlets, as well as the day-to-day operations of the division. He replaces Joel Hollander, who exits. Mason returns to CBS Radio after serving as an adviser and consultant to CBS and other radio for the past five years. Previously, he was President of CBS Radio from 1995 to 2002.

"Dan brings with him a wealth of diverse experience and a true passion for the radio business," said CBS President Leslie Moonves. "He is a well known and respected leader within the industry and our company, and his perspectives on how radio can thrive and grow in our highly competitive media world are very exciting. Dan has a key understanding of the huge potential of our radio operations, and we are very pleased indeed to welcome him back to CBS."

"Radio reaches more than 90% of the population of the United States, and there is no better medium to call our listeners to action and deliver results for our advertisers," said Mason. "The combination of our premiere content with new technology applications will enable CBS Radio to move to a new plateau. Exciting times are ahead for our industry and especially at CBS."

Mason joined Westinghouse as President of Group W Radio in 1993. He began his career in radio in 1975 at WZGC-FM/Atlanta. In 1977, he moved to Washington, DC, where he was that station's PD as well as National PD for First Media, the parent company. In 1979, he was named VP/GM of KTSA-AM and KTFM-FM/San Antonio. Mason later returned to First Media where he was named Executive VP. When First Media became Cook Inlet Radio Partners, he was named President in 1988.

Concurrently, the company announced that after more than two years as CEO, Joel Hollander has stepped down from his position. Hollander joined the company in 2003 as President and COO. "We want to thank Joel for all his years of service to our company, and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Moonves.

that's roasted................ ::) :'(

Dan Mason is a great addition to the CBS mess they call radio...he will make changes immediately and for the better, especially in the benign programming end of things...congratulations to Mr. Mason!

Doubtful. He and Greg Strassell go way back when they trusted Strassell to ride rough shot over programming at ARS. Meaning I doubt that Mason will get in Strassell's way. So it should be business as usual, no big programming changes. Mason and Hollander are not that disimilar. Hollander is a sales guy, Mason has concentrated largely on the sales end of radio for a long time. Not putting him down just making the comparison.
