They've added quite a few markets in the recent past, most recently Redding. Are they starting to seek affilates?

My question is WHY? I wouldn't run them on my micro-transmitter, much less a full-power station.

If I hear this morning zoo for more than 2 seconds, my head does a Scanners explosion! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!

Thank God, someone else said it. I wouldn't call Redding a big score for them. :)

Sounds like some jealous underachievers here. RAD is the best morning show on the West Coast. They'd have more affiliates were it not that most PDs are too short-sighted to get them...sort of like some of the know-it-alls on this board.

RAD are not for everyone. They do the job for ratings. Personally I can't stand to listen to them, when i have I feel like my IQ has lowered multiple points, Mark and Brian I can relate to.

But hey, some folks also thinks McDonald's is good food! ;)

I wouldn't call having an opinion about a morning show being a "know-it-all". They're not my liking however people must like them because they're going strong and have been for many years.

Best on the west coast? ::) Do you listen to every morning show on the west coast?

I do listen to some morning shows in Sac. I flip between Armstrong & Getty and Mark & Brian. Both are better than ever. I did listen to Adam Carolla until CBS flipped KLSX and Adam off-the-air. I saw the Ace man at the Crest. He was awesome! I LMAO!

I stopped listening to Mark & Brian when they were "Disney-fied" during the Disney reign of terror. I didn't know until recently that they were under constant assault to tone down there show.

I'm sure many, like you, are into RAD. I cannot stand to listen, even for a minute. That's just my opinion, for what it's worth. If you like it, more power to you. I know for a fact at least one person in RAD treat every one else in the building like crap. That's unprofessional, and just not right.

Under-achiever I am not. My engineering job probably pays more than most talent in Sac, or even SFO. I worked for a time in radio full-time, but left after starving in 3 smaller markets. I currently do a weekly podcast. Radio is much more fun when it's not your job. ;D

And what building would that be? RAD broadcasts out of it's own studios. Are you saying they treat each other like crap? And if distancing themselves from the staff at Entercom Sac was treating them like crap, you've clearly never been treated like crap.

K! ::) You clearly are unable to have an intelligent discussion on this subject.

Why must you insult anyone who just doesn't like a morning zoo?

I don't like peas or corn. Are you going to call me a Neanderthal for that too? It's just a matter of taste. I don't like their brand of radio. I don't care who the host/co-hosts are if any show is a zoo. They always have the same ingredients: a straight guy, a goofy guy, a laughbox, etc.

If a zoo is successful, I applaud them. I just don't have to listen.

You stated what you say as a FACT and Manny replied with a very legit question. They have their own building. It's the three on the show and 2 producers there. That's it. That's the list. So exactly who is the "everybody" in the building that one person is treating like crap? Instead of attacking Manny unreasonably how about you step up and explain yourself?

I'm sorry posting disagreement to your unsubstantiated claim is insulting to you, Steven. You didn't hesitate to attack my opinion that RAD is the best show on the West Coast. But I'm not insulted by it. Victims come in all shapes and sizes.

I wasn't attacking Manny. I was defending myself after his rant. Did you read the post? I must be an under-achiever if I don't like RAD.

Some time ago, more than one source from Madison mentioned how staff is treated by RAD. I have no idea what the situation is now. Obviously, I am not going to reveal sources in a public forum. If that's not good enough for you, then you have problems I can't help you with.

Here in Fresno we have had RAD for about 3 months. The other classic rock station in Fresno has Bob and Tom since 1995 as they were one of there original affiliates. My conclusion is they will not beat out Bob and Tom and would be better of dumping the D from RAD.I know the big knock against B&T was the laugh track that did not bother me,but in there defense they have toned it way down.

The laughing during B&T is simply there to keep people from stealing their bits.
That's why every time you hear Sean Morey's "The Man Song," there's laughter punctuating everything.
The version people play, is usually the one performed on B&T.

Comparing RAD to Bob & Tom is sort of apples n' oranges. I think they're different shows.

Having worked in the Madison building, I can tell you from personal experience that RAD are no better, or worse than any other AM show with regard to how they treat their co-workers. Anyone who's worked with a high profile AM show understands the eccentricities involved. If you cannot handle it, perhaps you shouldn't subject yourself to that environment.

It's not like there aren't egos within *everyone* who cracks the mic. I fully admit my own intensity. It can be grating on those who don't do what we do.

RAD have a track record of success. They've been able to redefine themselves in ways that their peers are incapable of. Do I like everything they've done? Absolutely not. Do I find some of their stuff annoying? Absolutely.

But, that's universal across the board. When you're responsible for 5 hours of *new* material every day, you're going to occasionally foul one off.

The key is consistency. And RAD are one of the most consistently entertaining shows I've ever been around.

You don't have to like them, But, you've got to respect them. They've earned that via their success.

Very well said Paul!

I've been around radio long enough to understand the personality thing. Radio people are artists. Very passionate and sometimes intense. Misunderstood by those outside the business. I have respect for anyone successful, regardless of how they got there, not just limited to radio.

Go to a modern art museum. What looks like a blotch of crap to me, you may find absolutely beautiful. Such is the same for radio...or even music. What sounds like fingernails on the chalkboard to me, may be a symphony to you.

Speaking for myself, I have a very outgoing personality, but not an over-inflated ego. If I win the lotto tomorrow, I will still treat every human being with respect. People I know and respect still have humility...in spite of their success.

...mic off... 8)
