Anybody know what the status is on Rob Grille of the Grass Roots? I keep hearing DJs on oldies stations asking listeners to pray for him.

bad news...seen him many times over the last 20 years, great show..........same thing happened to Mike Smith , lead vocal for the Dave Clark Five..after being paralyzed he succumbed to the injury and died.
Rob was fantastic in concert. We saw him at a small outdoor venue in 95 degree heat. He gave it his all, belting out all his great hits. He will truly be missed on the oldies concert circuit. Let's hope and pray that he can recover. I have Greaaaaaatttt early dating memories with all the hits of the Grass Roots!

I Love the irreverent Bob and Tom, we lost them in our market, I miss them.
Dick Biondi saluted him on WLS-FM by playing several Grassroots songs and not talking over them.

Too bad they don't realize that the Grassroots were more important culturally than them babbling on...on the whole, radio has still not learned that lesson after all these years.
I too dislike tributes to music stars when the DJ/host won't shut up long enough to play just one song. Is that too much to ask when a hit maker passes? I think with the news of a death, the audience will understand if there's a song or two on. In fact, they may actually appreciate it.
The Grass Roots, always associated with AM Bubblegum Top 40 music were an interesting goup who had a chance to "spread their wings" on occasion. My favorite of their hits is "I'd Wait A Million Years". It's more aggressive then most of their music. Then on the B-side is another of my favorites from the band, a wild thing about an airplane hijacking called "Fly Me To Havana" which was co-written by Rob Grille. I guarantee you that at the end of the year, when I do my annual tribute show to music stars who passed away, on WBWC 88.3 FM in the Cleveland/Elyria/Lorain Ohio area, I'll be playing "Fly Me To Havana"! And, I won't say a word while it plays.

Yes firepoint was rightfully annoyed trying to catch the Song, and for sure Bob and Tom never shut-up that's their trade-mark.
my favorite Grass roots tunes are "The River Is Wide" (also done by Forum, I think) and "Live For Today" which was a partial rip-off of the Drifters 1960 classic "I Count The Tears"

Which Grassroots member is going to step-up and replace Rob Grille on the lead vocals for the current group.
The Buchinghams did a good job with Carl Giamaresse taking over for Dennis Tufano on lead and Joe Terry also for Danny Rapp "Danny and the Jrs",

Talk about deja vu "all over again" I caught Eric Burdon a couple of years ago....After years of touring by himself he resurrected original Animals "Hilton Valentine" on guitar, It was sweet to hear Nicky on the House of The Rising Sun" Intro again..
Interesting note when Burdon did "Don't Let Me Misunderstood" he did the "Santa Esmeralda" (Flamenco Guitar and Clapping) intro and then back to the original Animals version.
Tommy James does the Billy Idol version of "Mony, Mony" in the 2003 PBS concert 60' revisited which included Rob Grille and the Grass Roots.

Good for him! That's the way that it SHOULD be done! Just for the record, the song that I heard them talking over was "I'd Wait a Million Years." They only played about a 30-second snippet of it. :'(radioman148 said:

Yes, the Forum did that song. I have the 45. And I never caught the similarity between "Live for Today" and "I count the tears" til now. Interesting!
Top 40 radio was all the better for playing the Grassroots in the 60's and early 70's. They were a great feel-good, radio-ready band. Sooo many good songs.
