ROBBY BRIDGES LEAVING WCTK

This is a shocker & a big loss for WCTK. Buenos dios amigos will soon be Adios amigos as Robby leaves for afternoons at WEBE, Bridgeport, CT. WCTK is looking for a replacement.

This is a loss for the market, but makes sense for Robby. Puts him close to NYC where he will ultimately end up. Good for him!

I think WEBE used to be located in Westport. A very nice community. Unfortunately it now looks like the station is located in Bridgeport. My sympathies go out to Robbie for the actual town that he has to drive into to get to work. They don't call it Bridgepit for Nothing. I was happy for the guy when I thought the station was still in Westport.

Anyway.... nobody needs to miss him to much. The station streams. Good Luck Robby!

I figured he'd make a move sooner or later given that Providence isn't exactly a thriving market anymore.I thought he'd make a jump to a major market given that he has weekended in Boston,NYC,and Philly but it's still an out.I would move Adam Scott to afternoons.

He's gone about his career the right way. He's concerned about his public image and puts on a good face for the public. He knows being a radio personality doesn't end when you get off the air and regardless of whether or not radio people think it's a smiley-face facade the listeners don't. He knows this area and knows how to allude to the state and its history. I'm willing to bet after a month in Bridgeport he'll sound like he was born there. I would almost be tempted to say if there was more passion on Oxford he would have been a good candidate to program B101 and Coast but I don't think this would be something he'd get anything out of.

Yes, the station is licensed to Westport, but has been in Bridgeport for a long while now...the station is located in downtown Bpt with all the corporate buildings in a pretty good area. Most of Bridgeport is fine, open your eyes before you make such a comment :)

WEBE 108 is licensed to Westport, but is located in Bridgeport, right off the highway. I did mornings there after leaving PRO-FM, from 1992 to 1995. Irony, I replaced Peter Bush in the Morning, and years later Robby replaces him in the afternoon. Curt Hanson is a great person, and PD, but I always felt he "micro managed" his jocks too severely. I think that Robby will find out he may not have the leeway or freedom for personality bits that he had at CTK. While I was there, this led to numerous problems between Myself, the GM and Curt. The GM hired me bacause he liked my act on PRO-FM, but Curt kept telling the GM if I did the "longer bits with characters" it would chase the music audience away, and this would have to be spaced in over time. Well, the GM went along with that for awhile, but unfortunately it never happened. (probably because my 2nd book there was the best in WEBE's morning history) So Curt's happy, GM isn't because he's paying big bucks for bits something never happened, and I'm upset knowing if I did "my act" the ratings would be even better. In a public forum such as this, I'd rather not say more, but Curt IS a decent human being. It's just his take and mine on morning programming were directly opposite..Another irony, when I left WEBE in '95 I came back to Providence to do mornings on CTK. Radio, a strange world indeed.

I'll take Jimmy, who worked at the station for 3 years, as lead in regards to the area.....

additional thought. My first week at WEBE, Police found a Prostitute with 72 bullet holes in her. Yes 72! I once found myself lost, driving my Porsche in Bridgeport, followed by a Benz, and 2 BMW's complete with blacked out windows. (did they think I was a dealer trying to cut into their territory?) Never ventured into Bridgeport again. Hopefully things have changed since 1995.

Thanks Jimmy for confirming what I tried to explain here in the first place. Like I said....
BRIDGE PIT. lol

Providence has just as many concerns as Bridgeport (anyone care to guess why there is a security gate w/ access codes to get in at Oxford St?)...

Yes you are correct. That area is our version of Brdgeport. But then again....NBC TV in Burbank has a security gate too. But that is to protect it's big stars. I don't think that is the case with Oxford st. You are more likely to find a Prostitute with 72 bullet holes in her over there. lol
