Robert Conley, first host of All Things Considered, dies at 85

The Current story you link gives a link to the NPR story on him that includes some excerpts. You can also hear the original theme music, which was replaced a few years later.

He disappeared from the show pretty quickly and has been invisible ever since. I wonder what the story was. He was only on the show a few months (compared to more than 25 years for Robert Siegel). Why did he leave so quickly and what had he been doing after? It's curious. He was well qualified and he did have good pipes.
