Robert Philpot?

What has happened to Robert Philpot’s radio column in the Star Telegram? I haven’t seen any new columns posted on the Star’s website since September 13th.

Although the post below is accurate, it's only part of the story. I think most people on this board know I lurk here, but I'm not in the habit of posting _ in fact, I re-registered just so I could post this. Anyway, if you want less misinformation, or hey, if you want to criticize me, the e-mail address is at the end of the column and here as well.

I always thought that column was like dear abby, where it was AP releases, various ghost writers and a generic picture of some guy ;) I'm joking of course Mr. Philpot, its great to see you on here and I always make it a point to read your column. Just let us know when you leave for another vacation ;)

Robert,

Please write soon!

Sincerely,
Thinker

PS... are you any relation to Jay Philpot?

The "Star-Telegram" has discontinued the radio column -- it's that simple

It's obvious, or should be, that the "Star-Telegram" has discontinued a regular radio column although Robert does report on radio news now and then.

That's a decision reached by managment because of budgetary restraints and frees Robert to do other reporting.

Believe it or not, most people don't care as passionately about the radio industry as we do :).

In fact, most just don't give a hoot about radio one way or the other.

"The Dallas Morning News" is using a stringer, a freelancer, to cover radio after Al Brumley's death.

His first two features, although reasonably well written, were one sided. He seemed to believe everything everyone told him and just quoted them without checking to see if it was true.

Worse, the guy apparently got no help from his editors.

Frankly, "The Morning News" should quit reporting on radio, if that is the best it can do.

Well said. We have entered another era of the public not caring unless its visual, and only "eye candy" at that. The DMN coverage has amounted to a printed infomercial. The only ones who care about the "who's and whats" of radio come here or go to radiodailynews.com. Radio doesn't matter as it once did in the public eye,and that is sad.The industry is at fault for this, and for the way it has become. Yes it is a business, but a business that could have and should have been done better. How? It would have to be done on a case by case situation, not one size fits all, which in itself has doomed it.

Yes, but no radio COLUMNS in most. Radio news.

"The New York Times" has no radio news to speak of and no radio column.

The Post hired John Manelli, the former PD of WABC, to write a column. He knows his stuff. And within a column, he is allowed to state his opinion.

"The Los Angeles Times" also has no radio column but does cover radio news. Some of the suburban LA papers as well as Orange County publications do have columnists that report and give their opinions on radio.

One of the Chicago papers has a radio columnist.

Don't know about Philly. I don't believe "The San Francisco Chronicle" has a radio column, but I may be wrong. No idea about San Antonio.

By the way, Robert Philpot does a great job of covering radio. I wish the "Star-Telegram" would reconsider.

It was a business decision -- strictly.

And interest in radio compared to other entertainment news is ... you know.
