ROBERT ST JOHN OUT AT MAGIC

Today Magic 105.3 cut loose Robert St John as PD. Virgil Thompson will take over programming for the AC as well as continue at KISS! Cox is at it again with the axe out and chopping away. Just recently they cut loose the mid-day guy and night jock at K-HITS in Houston and also terminated long time PD/Morning guy at Country Legends in Houston. That leaves the Country Legends station in Houston without a LIVE person at anytime and K-HITS voice tracked mid-days and nights. How long will it be for MAGIC to go totally voice track. Only two live shifts left, that's mornings and afternoons. I predict it won't be long before Cox has all of their stations voice-tracked 75% of the time. Oh wait, I think they already are. Radio just ain't what it used to be!

First off it is Robert John (Not St. John) ::) they also let Megan Bishop from Y-100 go and Dave Griffth from KONO go also, so I guess that means alot of changes there some for the good and some not.

Man! If Dave and Megan get canned, then nobody is safe. Megan is a sweety, and a great employee. Dave is a veteran with a long history of great ratings. Another great employee. I recall Robert from the old KITY-FM days, and have a positive recollection of the man. All I can think is that they must have made decent money, which puts them at the head of the list of people to cut. [EDIT] Who'se next, Lysle and Hawn? (not bloody likely).

Wouldn't you think that cluster there has got a pretty healthy revenue stream?
This is very disappointing news to see/hear. Wasn't this suppose to be "budget related?"
Gee I love this business.

I dont see why the employees did not see this coming. When Cox moved magic and kiss from windcrest to the med center you could see the writing on the wall, too many employees, two gm's, almost double of everything. So what they did was say in the beginning was no worries we are committed to you....right, what they are commited to are dollars, with voice tracking so easliy done from other locations why not start making cuts in programming, as you can see they took a second gm and gave him a demotion to pd, fired a so so pd and talent and save some money. Then they look at other stations on where to save money and viola, two more people to voice track and save money.
Now the people they let go were very good at what they do. Megan was an excellent employee who did what you asked and more, her ratings were top notch and she had a personality that could lighten any dark day. Dave was great during the afternoon drive his ratings were superb and people really liked him, but then again it's Cox. What they should have done was fire the KONO pd since he is such a kiss a$$ and all the bad moves he has made, like listening to consultans and severly tweaking the format. The GM's just like all that boot licking.
I hope Megan lands with KJ on the morning show with Randy and then they will show Cox how a real morning show works. Megan has worked with George King before. As for Dave he could possibly retire to the golf courses, lord knows he deserves it after years of great radio. Robert John could land at KQ but time will only tell. Dont look for Cox to cut there bread and butter (lisle and hahn) or Jerry King (KKYX) could possibly be voiced for Houston. Others are possibly on the hit list as Cox tries to save more money

That would be great if Megan landed at KJ... I've always liked her... It really ticks me off that someone like her and Dave and Clayton for that matter were let go for really no reason.... that's a shame. And yet idiots like Rick the Stick and Henrietta are allowed to spew their garbage on the air... just sickening.

I have to say I was quite surprised to hear Megan was let go. While I haven't talked to her since before she left Magic, I always considered her to be a friend, and, yes, she's a nice lady.

Robert John was always known for taking a positive approach to programming. I've always been told working for him was very easy as he was able to give you constructive criticism without belittling you when things didn't go well.

I wish both of them well and hope they land on their feet soon.

good luck to all!

Robert John has always treated his staff with respect and support. Cox's loss will be someone elses gain, hopefully soon,

Robert John is and always will be a hack!
Sounded like crap on the air and drove that station into the ground.
Went from top 3 before he took over to the basement in his 1st book.
Come on he's the reason they tanked.
