Robin and Maynard on the ferry ...

I was riding the Mukilteo / Clinton Ferry to Whidbey Island over Easter weekend and heard Robin and Maynard making the recorded safety announcements. It was quite a blast from the past and good to hear them again. Anyone know if this is new sound or has this been playing for a long time? Is it a one-off or are they doing some current work together?

They're part of a whole collection of media has-beens who recorded those announcements several years ago, including Tony Ventrella, Gregg Hersholt and Jane Shannon (saying they're on KIRO)

And isn't Scott Burns (KBSG, Young Country, & KJR) doing one of the voices on the Sounder? Might have heard wrong, as I don't ride the train.

Wow- you're talking about some very talented and nice people as "has-beens". Would you walk up to any of them in a room and say that to their face? Somehow I don't think you would. What have YOU done lately?

Good point. It wasn't meant as a criticism of them... more as a commentary on the state of the business. If you're over 50 in Seattle radio you suddenly become expendable.

I have nothing but respect for the former greats of Seattle radio. But the Ferry system should update these. They mean very little to the average commuter or tourist. I realize there is a shortage of funds for public transport, but please, updating these messages should not be a major expense.

Valid point, but with all the budget shortfalls and ferries breaking down, I don't think the recordings are at the top of the list of priorities right now.

Thank you. I'm glad you clarified. I understand.

Sorry, but when I first read the title of this thread, I thought how GENIUS the WSDOT was in selecting Robin & Maynard as their ferry spokespeople. After all, it simply ain't Puget Sound without Robin & Maynard heard somewhere.......

(You stuffy radio "pros" could REALLY use a fiber enriched diet...... Like, ummmm, NOW.)

When I found out it was an old tape from the '80s, my heart sunk. But even though it's been a VERY long time since I last did the Mukilteo-Clinton run (try 1997), I would absolutely LOVE to hear it (I never did in 1997......)

Hell, the way gas prices are going, they may as well......

Randy R - Well said. To me, being called a "has been" is okay. I'm not easily offended, especially by a goofy thing like that. Besides - in nearly every case, someone calling another a "has been" is most likely a "never been." I prefer the former ...
