Rocco De Maro

The guy is growing on me.

I'm a big sports talk fan- having grown up a sports crazed youth in a family that could not care less. It was often my only source to hear discussion of subjects and the culture I loved.

But although sports talk has boomed in recent years in Pittsburgh- I don't think the quality of sports talk is anywhere near what it was in the so-called "Glory Days" when Cope and Savran ruled the WTAE airwaves.

Everyone is either putting out a negative take (WEAE- paging WEAE!) or is just so bland for fear of upsetting someone they become unlistenable.

That's why I am really enjoying De Maro's show. He's matured a bit- taking that ridiculous bio off the 104.7 website and replacing it with his own picture and what he's doing.

But what I really like is he is enthusiastic. You know he's a fan and wants the same outcome- Pittsburgh sports teams winning- that you do. And he's talking about the issues we want discussed- slots arena- for instance- and is covering them by asking the questions we want asked.

Also- he's interviewing media members that aren't always interviewed and coming out ahead in doing so.

"Celebrating the Average" is not a good bit- but we can live with it.

Maybe it's because he's on once a week- so I'm left to wanting more- whereas Ellis Cannon wants me wanting less.

But De Maro has improved and is rapidly becoming my favorite local sports talk host.

I do like Rocco De Maro. He has an upbeat personality as you have stated above. I remember when Guy Junker was doing a Saturday Afternoon show with him on 104.7 before Junker went to ESPN Radio. They made a really good team. Im surprised ESPN didn't pair Rocco with Guy Junker, which I think would really keep their ratings high consistently. Eddie Crow with Junker just doesn't cut it for me IMO. He was much better on DVE and RRK.
