Rochester Inquiry:

I was glancing over the rochester numbers..
and, i came across the #4-rated station..
WDKX and it said urban..i knew as i soon as
i saw the "URBAN" it was 'that 104' rochester station..[103.9]FM

Success of a Urban station, is no wonder, but what am i
perplexed about..on the allaccess.com website, it has a hyperlink
to the station website, the calls, format and owner all in
the order of "rankings"..w/ the #1 station, logically at the top..

Okay, my question: Is "Monroe County" actually the owner
of the 4th "best" rochester station ? I am not knocking
market #54, but it just strikes me as "interesting" that,
if this true, the county owns a station(for one) and,
even more impressive..is not using it for "Tourism:Rochester";
yet, having it be a music driven *SUCCESSFUL* format..
versus a playing it safe, and 'generic' all-hit(from any decade
of music) jukebox.

If i am mistaken w/ this post, i wont feel like a jackass..i would
be curious, to know of the owner-situation, and apperciate
any info. any one cares to share..on this board, you know who
you are who always posts accurate info : ) and i continually
thank you ~ and apperciate it...

Re: Rochester Inquiry: WDKX

"Monroe County" is actually shorthand for Monroe County Broadcasting Co. Ltd.--known to most as the Langston family: Andrew Langston Sr. (CEO), Andre (Marcel) Langston (president) and Gloria Langston (treasurer). At least that was the management structure when I last wrote about the station for my "On the Radio" column in Business Strategies Magazine a couple years ago.

Perhaps my ol' buddy Jim (Jordan) Feuerstein (WDKX production director) can confirm all the titles. (I've been encouraging him to join the conversation here for a while :)

As one of the few remaining family-owned stations--and a successful one at that--WDKX is a Rochester radio treasure.

it is one of the better stations, in the rochester-buffalo
"wny" markets.

Re: Rochester Inquiry: WDKX

OK, Mike... I finally joined the board! You are correct on the titles of the officers of Monroe County Broadcasting Co. Ltd./WDKX-FM. Some basic info on WDKX can be obtained at www.wdkx.com by clicking on the "History" button.
