Rochester needs another newscast

And WBGT would be the perfect place for one!

So to hell to R News, WROC, to stop bitching about them and hello to NEWSCENTER 18/40!!!

Good idea. But I dont think WBGT has enough $$ or the power (literally), to put on a newscast. I do believe they are still running on a LOW Power Signal.

If any TV station should have a daily news product is should be WXXI. They did many years ago but shelved the idea because it was costing the station too much money. And while it's rumored that WXXI might be merging their radio and TV news departments, they still wouldn't have enough staff to air a daily newscast. WXXI's management isn't about to spend any more money hiring more reporters and videographers. They are too busy giving themselves huge raises instead.

Take if from someone who worked there for 14 years, WXXI is not about to broadcast a nightly TV newscast unless Golisano or some other rich individual is willing to shell out the money for such a venture. Even if that were true, I'm pretty sure the money would be allocated for some other pet project.

As for merging the radio and TV news departments, that rumor was going around the building when I worked there. I will believe it when I see it. And even if the merger rumors are true, WXXI would need to hire more staff if they wanted to air a decent product.
Right now they have one TV news director, a videographer, and four radio news people, including their news director. Unless they use their part-time, casual, fill-in staff, the station just doesn't have the staff to pull off a 1/2 hour daily TV news show while keeping their radio news commitment.
