CKSH-TV channel 9 of Sherbrooke, Quebec was also carried by then-Continental Cablevision of Saco/Old Orchard Beach. 13 Portland is now WGME while 26 Biddeford, ME is now WMEA.

CKSH was also carried on some Boston-area systems as well; there was a sizable Franco-American community in some areas, descended from Quebecois and Acadians who emigrated to work at local textile mills.

I think it might still be carried today in parts of New England

Probably in Old Orchard Beach, since it's "Quebec South" in summer. It's not carried in Portland, as their only out-of-market station is PBS channel 11 of Durham, NH.

I think CKSH 9 is still carried in the Lewiston Maine area and a few other Maine cable systems. I always found it odd that, if you're going to carry the Radio-Canada French channel from the CBC, why you don't carry the flagship, Channel 2 CBFT Montreal? I think CKSH has mostly the same programs but the newscasts and commercials are about Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships. And for that matter, why not carry CBMT 6 Montreal for English speaking Canadians? I'm sure both 2 and 6 are on satellites.

I don't think someone is still picking up the CKSH signal from, say Northern Vermont, and sending it by microwave around New England. When I was in Newport VT a few times, the best TV signals came from the two French stations in Sherbrooke, Radio-Canada CKSH 9 and CHLT 7, which is a TVA affiliate. If you didn't have cable, it was hard to get a decent signal for CBS WCAX 3 Burlington or WPTZ 5 Plattsburgh.

At the time, the best English language channel in Northern Vermont was WMTW 8 Poland Spring, which used to transmit from the highest point in New England, Mount Washington. But today, the station no longer is on Mount Washington. With digital television, it's too far from Portland, its main target, or the suburban communities along the Maine coast south of Portland.

CKSH isn't carried in Old Orchard Beach, according to Zap2it. However, WHDH is (it helps that they run 12 hours of local news per weekday)

Times change. I get it. But when I lived there from 1985-87, and with visits in the early 90s, it was definitely there.
