Rock 100.5's format history

When the station first started, they were AOR-ish. I remembered it shifted towards AAA. Where is it at nowadays? I think its classic rock.

They have never been able to decide what they want to be when they grow up... don't forget about "quality rock" whatever the heck that was.

Cumulus landed the Regular Guys, basically launched Regular Guys 100.5, and have been failing to find something to retain the morning audience ever since.

Meanwhile Fred Toucher & Rich Shertenleib successfully transitioned from rock to sports talk in Boston. I've wondered why they haven't tried that.

That's why I've suggested simuling 680 outside of AM drive. Leave Rude on 680 and simul the rest of the day.

Would it be possible to make a "guy talk" station--light politics (not Rush/Beck/Hannity), sports, PBP, Cigar Dave, Red Eye Radio overnights, etc.? Maybe rely on 680 for some but not all of the programming outside of AM drive.

May be someone has the figures to disprove this but I think 680 out bills 100.5,* so why would you want to mess up 680 by simulcast any part with 100.5. Technically 680 is a Dickey station, why would the Dickeys let that revenue go to Cumulus. Atlanta does not have a bunch of FM signals so I doubt their is a market covering FM "waiting" to become the sports talk king. I hate to suggest this but what would happen to 100.5 if they went to a 300 to 400 classic rock hit format like 97.1 started out with. IIRC The River did better in the +6 when they were burning out 300 or 400 songs at a time.

*Nationally sports talk stations bill amazing amounts despite their Arbitron 6+ rankings.

Did not want to create another thread for this since it is related to Rock 100.5 format but I've been listening for the past three weeks very closely. They sound pretty much the same to 97.1 the river minus the 80's hair band. If Rock 100.5 wants to score any brownie points, they need to dig deeper into the music and broaden the library. I note they play Lunatic Fringe at least twice a day. This is getting old. They need to get deeper with the classic rock before they will even me considered over 97.1 the river.
