Rock 104.5 is retiring

Rock makes cents....Power mints listeners and ad buys....makes you wonder why they waited this long. Just hard to believe there may be an American radio land with virtually no 100kw real rock.

Wow. WFYV has been rocking Jax for a third of a century. I noticed something checking the Rock 104.5 website: "Find the best new rock artists from Rock 104.5 now on X 102.9." Is this something new?

Surprise they don't go full classic rock as they almost sound like one just drop the newer rock. As for 104.5 do we see Power 104.5 coming? Cox already has the domain power1045.com

If Power does not move to 104.5, what format could be put on there? Classic hip hop like 102.1 in Birmingham, could be a 1-2 punch (with Power 106.1) to knock the Beat off the throne for good? Adult contemporary to compete with 96.1?

???? ??? ???

If Power doesn't go on (or leaves 106.1), then chances are, it's gotta be Soft AC (although those that loved the "Dove" stunt are going to be EXTREMELY skeptical), or Mainstream/Hot AC.

Hey, maybe WKTZ will move to 104.5....

<ducking Jax-grown tomatoes> :)

Hey I can dream, can't I?

I'm not familiar with the Jacksonville market. How long has this station been on the air?

According to their Wikipedia page, WFYV started rocking on March 10, 1980.

Or @ least 106.1! But seriously, I am glad to see Rock 105 going away. Even tho I left St. Augustine 11 years ago, I still cringe thinking about how limited their playlist was (the same 7 bands over & over & over). I miss Big 106.5 & The Arrow but am glad to see Rock 105 going away. It was as bad for AOR as Planet 93.3 was for modern rock.

I just hope this doesn't make them tinker with X102.9's playlist too much. It's a good alternative/new rock station & needs to stay that way!
