Rock 93.9--where are you?

Where is the Rock station? I can't believe they got rid of it, it was the best. Greg and the Morning Buzz is the BEST morning show there is. Steve Smith in the afternoon, gave for a great ride home. Now I am turning to CD's and not listening to any radio in the Upper Valley.

Greg who I've heard do play by play before, but mostly wrote for the Valley News is part of a morning talk show. Syndicated talk the rest of the day with sports at night, I think.

It is a shame, and the "news coverage" that they replaced it with sounds like a direct stream from the brain of Carl Rove. Greg and the Morning Buzz will be missed as there is no other decent morning show around. Q106 trys, but I'm not a fan of the Free Beer and Hotwings, or whatever it is. 99 Rock trys to be too edgy and there's no real interaction, fun, interviews or discussion. Hopefully someone will build a tower stong enough to bring us some Manchester radio, but for the mean time I guess it's back to CD's and my IPOD.

Assuming its Greg Fennell you're speaking of - he was actually a broadcaster for many years prior to joining the Valley News - first for WCFR, then for WTSL.

What a bummer rockgirl78! :'( your right about 'the buzz' it was packed full of what radio should be, FUN interaction! My big girlfriend at cc and I have been wonderin' when the trigger would get pulled from upper walley radio...and yes, while she was gettin' your Mary goin' with talk of Tom Hoyt returnin' ;D LOL! It turns out to be Greg 'go get em' Fennell. I see he's had a huge radio career! :D Maybe he should stick to writin' and not talkin'! Hope they can get some listeners with all that pulsing goin' on down there. I know the boyz and I won't be listenin' -they should know, talk doesn't produce milk, and the farm up here in Sharon is based on MILK PROduction!

What's on 93.9 is it a complete WTSL simulcast? Is the station tight with decent imaging? Good talk..Rush, the Sox and Pats could work on FM in the valley.

I heard it. Not a simulcast of WTSL. Greg Fennell and Brian someone in AM Drive. All local. Glenn Beck 9-12. 12-1 not sure...1-5pm sounds like a simulcast of local shows from their station in Concord. Gardner Goldsmith and Jack heath? WMUR news simulcast 5-6:30. The Red Sox. Fox Sports on there too. We;ll see.

Whomever (obviously money-hungry suits with no connection to the real market here) had the bright idea of taking away the most-listened to station in the Upper Valley has shot themselves in the foot. I will no longer listen to 93.9, NOR will I even attempt to numb my intelligence with talk radio. The Morning Buzz is, and always will be, a morning ritual for hundreds of my friends. I can honestly say that there is not one person I know that didn't listen to the show. I never considered satellite radio, but I will if I have to in order to listen along with my fellow Lumpas.

There is ENOUGH (cr@p) radio stations placating the elderly and over-educated in the Upper Valley to keep them all happily crunching their granola and hugging their trees. There are a lot of others in this Valley that actually have a life and enjoy living it to the fullest. The Morning Buzz was just the start to my day, but Greg, Laura, Andy, Roadkill, Kelly and all the rest were like an extended family that kept the rest of us connected. We talk about them over coffee and discuss the morning's topic at lunch.

You have taken away my morning wake up, my conversational inspiration, and THE only rock station that is worth listening to in the entire UV. Nothing else has compared with the station in my 30 years of listening in this area. Rock lovers are enraged. I have heard nothing but complaints and desperation from everyone I know. I work for an oil company whose drivers make it a point to listen throughout the day and now... there's nothing for them either. The programs kept us inspired, lively, and AWAKE throughout the day.

Another listener used "disappointed". That is an extremely mild adjective. "Horrified" is closer to home at the outrageous tragedy that has befallen us.

So, WTSM in Keene (the new station) will most likely be a simulcast.....which will be interesting. Basically, I wouldn't expect many listeners from Keene tuning into the new station. The signal will most likely be used as a way to increase coverage area....making the sales pitch be....."look at our signal....we are the biggest talker around...."

The Keene market already has a heritage talker with WKBK....they will never tune in to listen.

CBS-FM was talk?

And talk radio on FM has been quite successful in the Northeast in some markets. WTKK 96.9 in Boston immediately comes to mind, but in smaller markets WVOM 103.9 in Bangor and WXTK 95.1 on Cape Cod are also local ratings leaders.

The rock and "Greg and the Morning Buzz" seem to live on at 101.7 WVRR for now. Heard that yesterday when I was cruising through.. "CandyGirl", since there was so much overlap between the 93.9 and 101.7 signals, get yourself an FM antenna for your receiver and point it south to Claremont..Not sure if they streaming now.. Were all these displaced rockers upset since 93.9 carries the Sox and 101.7 did not.. There's nothing worse than losing your favorie station, there's a reason why the station was called "Rock 93-9 AND 101-7"... Tune to 101.7, it's all good.

In the last book there were 2 other Rock stations ahead of 93.9/101.7. If the numbers are to be believed 93.9/101.7 lost more than half of their listeners from the previous book. Let's face it, this station had the Morning Buzz and little else. The switch to FM Talk looks like it's simply meant to save some dough. It doesn't cost a whole lot to baby sit a satellite receiver.

Normally I stay outta this, but I need to correct Vallahafred on the ratings since he is soooooo wrong. Rock 93.9 & 101.7 was the #2 rock station in market #179, .3 behind WHDQ. Not bad for 6,000 watts VS 50,000 watts.

(check it here) http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRa... 12:00:00 AM&SU=S&BPER=&HPER=&OPER=&NSD=&CE=0

If you are going to use low ratings as a reason to flip to Talk, check WGXL's numbers. And if you are going to use cost as a reason, count the number of fulltimers on The Pulse vs when I ran the station. Looks like you're wrong there too. Weid huh?

By the way, run a county by county report for where WVRR & WMXR come in, then check the numbers. And for more fun, run a demo report with Men. Good times....

As for what someone said about the outcry with 93.9 put on the Sox, no there wasn't really much of it, just mild annoyance. The average rock listener isn't listening to the radio at that time, they are watching TV and heading to bed so they can wake up at 6am to go to work.

Anyway, that's that. And yes, this is me. Feel free to email me if you'd like to talk about this anymore. [email protected] The station had an awesome run and I'm proud of what we accomplished. And I'm sad to see it a shell of what it once was. (Notice how 101.7 sound like a decent rock station from 1997 now? Big voice booming voice guy talking at you, lame imaging, poorly written...it's like a flash back!! wahoo!) hahah..oye...how the mighty have crumbled....

Later
