And what's the deal with their produced sweepers/imaging? They sound like something on an easy listening station... The least edgy rock station liners I've ever heard. Something's up.

I smell a flip to Classic Rock. . .

I think the flip has already happened. There is a LOT more classic rock on WCCC FM these days than before. It used to be about 70% new or alternative, and about 30% classic, now it seems to be the reverse. And I like it. Now, if WCCC management would reverse their decision to air Whale games on FM only on Saturdays, it would be appreciated, or getting a new affiliate to air all the games. PS. Isn't classic "rock" still rock??

Would this "change" happen on March 1st? Yeah, the TOH identification did sound very odd indeed! If this is indeed a flip, why would they do so? WMRQ already does modern rock/alternative, WDRC already does classic hits and WHCN is already a blend of classic hits and some rock.

Sounds like a friday meeting is in the works. Jocks no longer say "the rock" and I have friends asking me whats going on when I have no idea myself. WCCC facebook page is Slammed with complaints as well. If you need me I'll be sadly only listening to spotify to get my new rock.

Probably not a bad move. Rock 102 does killer in terms of ratings AND revenue. A healthy "more music" AM drive to counter Rock 102 with a slightly broader playlist than WPLR could really work well. 'CCC has really lacked direction for a while. It's been a mess up there, and it's really too bad because there are some fantastic people who work there. I"m not sure why it's been floundering so terribly for so long.

From their newsletter:

As you may have noticed 1069 WCCC, along with all the great new music we play, has been adding more and more of the greatest rock songs of all time. You like it, so we will continue to give you the most variety in rock. You also have mentioned you like less talk and more rock. Make sure you listen next week. We will have a special announcement giving you the most rock you have ever heard with no stopping for anything.

So everyone's fired and they're going autopilot?

IMHO if you want radio to survive use underwriting or related items where you can play an add phasing out a song and into the next song mostly dry cut adds so people do not tune out and you go into the next song IE a 15-30 second add where you dont stop the music.

Their website says Friday @ 5PM 1,069 Rock Songs Non-Stop. 106.9 WCCC.

I smell a blow-up...

To what format???

Probably straight classic rock, a la WAQY or WPLR. Hartford hasn't had a classic rock outlet of its own since WHCN became The River.

I'm listening to WPLR and some wouldn't consider Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains or Audioslave as "classic rock" and I've heard them frequently on PLR (Right now,as I type this "Man in the Box" is playing). As for WAQY, killer signal, but the most rigid playlist I've heard on a classic rock station. No orginality whatsoever. I requested a Metallica tune a few years back, and the jock emailed back that "they do not have that product".

Cumulus has been running 5-second ads in between songs for a couple of years now. I think it's a good branding add-on in addition to a traditional ad schedule. All part of a balanced buy.

Man in the Box is 23 years old. Maybe it's not a classic rock tune in the traditional sense, but that's a long time.

WPLR has been adjusting its music mix to appeal to the younger end of the target demo and discourage listening by "unsellable" 55+ folks, just as WDRC-FM has.
