I guess this is a note to those who said that because its not ethnic it will be doomed to fail, to those who said that Bonneville was crazy for launching a rock station in LA.

Hmm, interesting note about a station thats NOT ETHNIC and guess what Mr. Eduardo, Its the top biller in the country. Wow, how can that be? Im sure you will come up with 30 points on why it was a fluke in the system and the major press was all wrong or something, because thats your MO

KROQ billed 67.6 Million. The station has been on a rise for the last 5 years in a row.

KROQ indexes very high against Hispanics... over 36% of the cume and 41% of the AQH of the KROQ audience is Hispanic. Of course, the KROQ "kind" of music is played all over Latin America, meaning that it has an affinity with Hispanics of a certain lifestyle and socioeconomic level even in the first and second generation.

The Sound music is generally not played anywhere in Latin America, and has no affininity with most Hispanics until they are third generation or beyond. The example would be Jerry Garcia himself. This is why stations like KFOG and KBCO have such small percentages of Hispanic listeners.

You play light with the figiures, hoping nobody will notice. The fact is, KROQ increased from 03 to 04 and again to 05, decreased in 06, and then recovered to the 05 level in 07.

That is not the same as being on a rise for five years in a row. So take that shell game elsewhere.

In a market that has had flat billings for the last 5 years, you will notice that the stations that increased billings all but one or two were Spanish language or targeted Hispanics signficantly (even Jack is significantly Hispanic, in fact)

The KROQ format has been around since the late 70's. I have plenty of second and third generation Latino friends who have been listeing to KROQ since we were in high school. They were not KNX-FM, KMET, KNAC or KLOS listeners and they won't be Sound listeners. You're trying to compare apples and oranges musically,

Finally, someone realized that hispanic's do in fact love their rock music. David Eduardo is right, most of the CHR stations in all of Latin America do lean on the hard rock side. I bet that 93 Rock in Miami has alot of hispanic listeners too.

The problem with THE SOUND is that it is akin to KNX bringing back the KNX Drama Hour every night. The format doesn't sell anymore. Bonneville thought that if they go after an older demo that is supposedly not being served in the market they will win. As some (including the ubiquitous DE) have pointed out, the audience for this is going to be limited to start with and if you start to have some bad diary months, you'd better have deep pocket$ to be able to keep the thing going. This is 2008 , not 1988 and sorry but time and population trends etc have moved on and changed.

That's not what I said. CHR's in Latin America that play English music mostly play pop, not rock cuts... artists being played today on such stations are Michael Jackson's reissue of This Girl Is Mine, Rihanna, Jonas Bros, Alicia Keyes, Simple Plan, Lenny Kravitz, Sea<n Kingston, Mika, etc.

The rock stations in Latin America tend to be a mix of heavy sounds, alternative and Spanish rock. The AC stations tend to be very gold based, with lots of Air Supply still being heard.

These are three separate formats, though.

WHDR in Miami has about 37% Hispanic AQH, in a market with 50% Hispanic population. Not bad, not good. The real issue is that the station is hovering at a low 2-share, while the top 4 stations have around a 5.5 share (three Spanish language and one urban AC)
