Rock meets hip-hop?

Could this work in the NYC? I mean i'm willing to deal with the difference if it means some sort of active rock comes back to NYC. THis is supposidly being done in California and is getting good response. Could this be the answer? What dot the radio experts here think? I'm for it. also there is a similar channel on Sirus channel 28 i think.

UMMM NO. Not talking p#$@y rock, i'm talking about Godsmack, Metallica, Disturbed! mixed with Nas, DMX, Fat Joe ect... Z100 doesn't have the B#$ls!

Can you say Z100 ? or any CHR/PoP stations ?

Clearly you are not a rock fan, and I even question how much of a hip-hop fan you are if you think Z100 is a good example. If by "Rock" you mean The Fray, Panic! At The Disco and Daniel Powter, and by "Rap" you mean Yung Joc, Jibbs and Nelly - then, yeah, Z100 is a great Rap/Rock mix, as long as you don't mind sitting through Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Jesse McCartney and the like.

I think what Hardrocker9 had in mind was the edgier representatives of each respective genre - the acts that are not played on the CHR stations. Personally, I don't see what would keep some of the poorly performing stations in the market from giving a format like this a whirl. We don't need two "Movin'" stations, and Free-FM, Jack-FM and CD 101.9 are permanent residents in the ratings cellar, so what's stopping them?

k-rock has a little bit of hip-hop I don't call outcast or eminem rock. they were both played on k-rock

KMBY in Monterey launched a format like this, but is it successful? Sounds good on paper, but I haven't seen any evidence that is working.

Yeah Liquid Todd did one but then I think they bounced that becasue Muggs from Cypress Hill was doing one. They have a mash up show on their stream Krock2 BUT mash ups are different than what he's talking about. Mash up is one piece of music made from two different ones aka a rock song and a hip hop song mixed together to make one piece of music. He's talking about a station with a playlist that would include both rock bands and hip hop artists

Actually, I think there's a better chance you'll see a Rock station like the new 94.9 The Sound http://www.949thesound.com/ which just launced in Cincinnati.
You can listen to them live with a 33 K stream mms://wmc1.liquidviewer.net/WPRV

Here's what I wrote about it on the Cincy board:
"It's a good station. It's a bit hit-oriented, but at the same time plays Modern Rock classics that a CHR wouldn't touch. They don't lean too hard like most Active Rockers, but play enough power-rock and harder alternative to satisfy people's tastes. I think this format stands a chance of working in other markets, like New York and Philadelphia. "

You can see what they're playing over at http://yes.com/station/WPRV
