rock music on 89.5 FM?

hey guys. i'm here in altamonte and i picked up some rock music on 89.5 fm. what is this? it said rocket radio or something like that between songs. is this another christian network or something? the signal is real staticey here. thanks guys. i'll keep listening. has anyone else got this station before?

Yeah, I've also picked it up before, & it is clearer as I drive from Orlando to Gainesville. I've looked it up online. It is WKSG-FM 89.5. I've heard KJ-52 (Christian Hiphop) on this station once before, so it's definitely a Christian Rock format.

Christian Hiphop......

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds really horrible....

actually, i enjoy christian hiphop. it's way better than that shit they play on other stations. i kinda like it. it is positive. it's not talking about money or dumb stuff that hiphop of this day talks about. yes, i came across wksg in my research. i figured that is what it was. i listen for a little while. it was ok. some guy named chuck was spinning the rock. i heard some rock christmas song. it was interesting but kind of cool.

Don't knock Christian Hiphop if you haven't really heard it. It's way better than the T-Pain & Lil' Wayne type stuff out there. Think "backpack" hiphop (if you even know the term). Some of the "Holy Hip Hop" sounds more like The Roots & Common.

The new "91.9 The Call" in Fort Myers is one of the best Christian stations that I've heard, playing everything from rock, dance, & hiphop. Whoever does their station audio imaging is a genius.

KJ-52 is actually known as the Eminem of Christian Hiphop. He raps about being a Floridian & soccer moms driving in minivans. It's humorous, yet real. I have all of his CD's. He's skewed a little Electro in his most recent releases. I've received a few calls every time after I play a KJ-52 track. People love it!

Cross Movement, John Reuben, & DJ Maj are well-known Christian Hiphop artists. Toby Mac & DC Talk might ring a bell. P.O.D. & Switchfoot is played on Christian Rock stations.

I'm not even a Christian! Only open-minded people listen to the left side of the dial. (87.5-91.9) The extremely open-minded participate in it voluntarily, like myself. Knowing & interacting with your audience & having guts - That's the beauty of radio that most stations today lack.

To me, there are really no rules in radio as long as I read the PSA's, play promos & spots, do legal ID's, & do what the FCC requires, which really isn't all that much. The rest of the airtime is all "DJ Mo", guts & all the fun included!

The Eminem of Christian Hiphop.......

Let's think about this. I am pretty sure that Eminem cannot find middle C on a piano, so if KJ-52 is the Eminem of Hiphop, he probably cannot find a verse in a bible...

You guys need to listen to some old Ike Turner records....

Oh the irony... Hip Hop is how young people like us discover Ike Turner and the R&B artists you grew up listening to. Most of us work our way backwards from todays music. Hip Hop opened me up to jazz and 70's R&B, much the same way my interest in metal led me to classical music. I'm not going to try to get you to enjoy hip hop...you've already made up your mind. But before you totally discredit it, you might want to appreciate it as an artform and recognize some of its redeeming qualities. There's bad music in any genre, so if your musical experience is commercial radio, I can assure you that you've only heard the bad stuff.

I am only 33...

As you can see, I am not a fan, but I do enjoy old Public Enemy ( It Takes a Nation Of Millions to hold us back is definately one of the most FUNKIEST discs ever made..)

well i'm happy it's not another damn reach fm signal. that is the good thing. i hate to come off as a jerkk here but i hate hearing this damn reach fm on almost every channel around here. well not every but it seems like they add a translator everyday...

Sorry DIZ, I didn't realize you were 2 years younger than me. I just assumed you were older because your posts exude experience. That's EXUDE not exclude!

Austin... I wouldn't mind the REACH signals if one of them actually came in CLEAR. Every signal sucks, and thats a shame since I like their Christian rock so much better than Z88.3. They should name it ZZZZZZZ88.3, since it puts me to sleep.

The only time I find myself on Z88.3 is when they play some Kirk Franklin.

WPIO 89.3 plays some good 'old school' Christian sometimes, but I've heard more jazz on it recently.

I remember hearing "Holy Hip Hop" on 104.5/104.7 one Saturday night. Too bad those frequencies somewhat crosses each other out. (Low Power Translators are annoying. There should be some sort of regulation on it.)

If I had an HD radio, I'd check out the HD-2 & 3 channels of 88.3. However, I'm going home in SWFL soon, so I'll get to enjoy the new 91.9 The Call on my dad's old receiver. They don't make receivers like they do anymore. Clear & crisp sound, plus it can pick up stations more than 200 miles away.

Z88.3's HD2-YHot and HD3-The Rock are available on the Internet at yhothd.com and therockhd.com.

well ok, just get rid of one reach fm signal here. get rid of the 104.5 i say. i can hear the 104.7 pretty good over here. just up the wattage up on 104.7 a little and it will be good... well i hope they read this. that would be nice. i'm ready for my holy hip hop fix tonight :). that is what i listen to on friday night. i love it!!!

It would be great if Z could get their hands on a few translators to show off their HD hip-hop & rock formats (now that an HD2/3 is a valid source for an "off air" translator).

Can non-commercial FMs legally air an HD subchannel on a translator full-time or even part-time though? Z certainly has the translator space to do it with, even after the 100kw changes take place... like on the 95.9 in Lake County, or any of the other half dozen they don't have near 88.x.

I have a very interesting question. How do religious broadcasters afford to be on the air? Why not start up a radio station that's NOT religious & do whatever religious broadcasters do to stay on the air?
