Rock n' Roll 1260 to Flip September 7th

After only a few months on the air, Apache Junction's new AM station will be flipping formats. Jeffry O'Brien (ex KXAM-er, Program Director and Morning Show Host) had this to say on Facebook:
"The announcement: As of September 7th, my radio station changes format from oldies music to talk on NBC 1260. I will move to afternoons and it will be a fun personality driven radio station. Happy now? I told ya."

I guess they figure the East Valley audience will appreciate talk on scratchy AM rather than music.

Music doesn't work on Ancient Modulation? Jeez...what's next: talk attracts old farts & geezers on AM? Our prediction was right: Rock'nRoll 12~Sixty wouldn't last 6 months. Nurse Jeff and I are pickin up the aroma of colon blow comin' out of AJ!

NBwhat? This sounds like deja vu 1190 all over again. Oh, wait, they're long gone, as I thought NBC Radio was.

Oh boy, another 5th-rate Antique Modulation talker with a weak signal. I can hardly wait. ::)

Still distributed by Westwood One, using TV talent (and repackaged TV feeds):

Does this put KT'R in jeopardy of losing its rebroadcast of Meet Depressed to the likes of AM 1260?

It's been a couple of weeks since I tuned in...did they ever get the music to run at the right speed?

The flippant answer is of course: does it really matter now? ;)

A cursory listen starting at 5:41 PM today--following a little dead air--is that
Elvis' Suspicious Minds sounds a bit slow.

The signal is also really distorted, and was cutting in and out during the beginning
of Mrs. Robinson. Distortion getting worse by the minute, actually. If this was
Lumberyard 1440, I'd say the old Ampliphase needed some new tubes! (Yeah,
I know KAZG really has a Harris Five.) But doesn't the Big 'BSZ have a new rig?

When it comes to traditional oldies, you cannot trust AM or FM radio. Either load your iPod or MP3 player with 2,000 oldies, or go with satellite or internet radio.

I realize that a monthly fee is often involved, but it is what it is. Terrestrial radio is programmed by advertisers. 1260 probably couldn't find advertisers, hence the flip to NBC News/Talk. :)

Not only that, but it seems that the power level varies quite a bit as well. Some days, it comes in like gangbusters in the Tuke, on others its weaker but audible, and on still others it's barely audible. They're supposed to be running 800 watts? Sometimes it sounds like 50-100.
