Rock 'n' Roll Hits with a Religious Message

Forgot "Ya Mo Be There" Michael McDonald and James Ingram

A little more skeptical of religion and religious dogma:

Jacob's Ladder--Huey Lewis and the News
"Jesus He Knows Me"(I think)--Phil Collins and/or Genesis
Imagine-John Lennon

The song was written by Todd Rundgren. I don't know exactly what his religion was then, or is now (though some of his more recent efforts "Jesse" and "Fascist Christ" telegraph what he thinks of right-wing Fundamentalism....)

There was a cover done by a Filipino CCM artist named Gary Valenciano a few years back, though.

How is it right wing fundamentalist to expect a Christian song to have correct theology? but you are right - songs with a religious message could include anything wierd religion down to the Church of Ronald McDonald.

I'm about as "spiritually correct" as you can get, but I disagree with Barry McGuire. Vietnam was fought to cover up the debacle of the so-called great society, which was really just a shallow attempt to buy votes with tax money. And we are fighting the wrong war now, we put two million troops in the Pashtun province of Pakistan, shoot everything that shoots back, and we would have Bin Laden inside of a month.

Correct theology according to whom? Who really has the copyright on the term "Christian" or exclusive rights to interpreting the Bible?

Correct theology according to Jesus. Some parts of the Bible can be interpreted different ways, others are pretty cut and dried. The term Christian = Christ follower. If you aren't willing to humbly accept His word, and guidance from the Holy Spirit, go find a religion you are more comfortable with.

The first cover I heard was recorded in 1988 by Sheila Walsh. That year, she joined "The 700 Club" as a hostess, and performed it on her first show. However, that version is not available in digital release.
