George Carlin. Mostly the same routines for 40 years, with a somewhat different spin here and there.

So what brilliant Totally New and Original radio programming format do you have in mind?

Jimbo,

Say what? Your opinion of Carlin places you in a very small minority, my friend. George was arguably the closest thing we've had to a Comic Laureate. He ceaselessly and unerringly poked holes in the foibles and hypocrisies of our politics, religion and culture. To blow him off as a one trick pony is beyond ridiculous. Frankly, its hitting below the Borscht Belt. You might as well call Hemingway a hack for framing all those stories around guys with too much testosterone. Or label Springsteen a one hit wonder for recycling that single Girls/Cars/Jersey Shore riff of his time and time again. OK, you'd have a point there....

Insofar as sharing my programming ideas, I think Ill keep them to myself. You never know when I might have the chance to launch something on Terrestrial/Satellite/HD/Internet Radio, Podcast, Common Carrier or Muzak system at Marden's. If and when it happens, I'll welcome your expert critique.

I don't know about the 'same routines for 40 years' angle, but the last few HBO specials I saw of him he was just a bitter old fart. Somewhat entertaining, with interesting social commentary, but funny? No. More like a 70 y/o Bill Hicks.

whoa...never even hinted that George Carlin was a hack. I admired George Carlin. He had an act, a character. He had bits everyone wanted to hear. You were commenting about Oldies and because I said something about Comedy, you were making your point about hearing the same "jokes" over and over again.

As your limited knowledge and experience in this business shows...you'll Wow the crap out them with that internet radio show or whatever daydream you're pursuing (Musak, that's inovative!)
