Rock101 in Lubbock

Rock 101.1 (KONE) Lubbock has a new logo. The old logo still prominent on their website was "Rock101," the new one is sharper, and has incoroported the ".1" part of their frequency. You can also see the new logo on the a photo on their website, and in some TV promos which are now running.

Ouch!

Well, at least there's a place I can tune to when I just want to hear Classic Rock. I can't say that about other cities. You know, there's something to be said for music that sounds like actual music.

But I digress...

I don't think it has gotten worse. The talent has always stunk on that station. With the exception of Stan Castles, I don't think anyone can name one jock that actually didn't sound horrible on Rock 101.

I'm sorry, but why would you make exception to a jock with a lisp? No offense to Mr Castles (I'm sure he's a nice guy), but he may be the worst one on 101.

I couldn't tell you if he's a nice guy or not. I've never met him or any other Rock 101 staff member for that matter. However he does have pretty good pipes. Everyone else, who knows, maybe the right PD can turn them into alright jocks. As far as past jocks on that station, there's a good reason why you don't hear any of them on the radio anymore.

I think it's time to move on from this subject. My post was NOT intended for starting a "b-tch fest" on KONE. You are all of course welcome to your opinions. I for one, am happy that we have at least one radio station in Lubbock that plays straight classic rocks. Compared to other markets around the country, we have now have a healthy diet of fomats that other places don't have: Classic Rock, Oldies, Alternative (be it College Alternative), and Modern Rock.
You'll find that market number 1, NY City, has only Classic Rock.

So, say what you want about the Jocks at 101.1. I'm glad the station exists.

Lubbock sure doesn't have a modern rock station, nor does it have an alternative station.

FMX is Active Rock leaning toward AOR and KTXT is college alternative/idie which I think great that Lubbock has both, but we do lack an alt/modern rock station... oh well, that's what 47-Ethel and 54-Lucy are for I guess!
