So who knows what the deal is with this?

Branding and brand protection are important to terrestrial radio, so yes, I would think that the owners of KLOL would be concerned. On the other hand, I haven't gotten to check out your stream, but seeing images of Outlaw Dave on your site reminded me of when I was in college, and would drive into Houston for a Skynyrd concert, or .38 Special, or so on, and tune into KLOL as soon as I could pick up the signal. The station was fun to listen to, and the music was right up my alley.Rock101KLOL said:Hello,
I must say I am surprised that when I saw the traffic coming from this site that I was intrigued to see what was being said about the return of Rock 101 KLOL I really did not expect it to be a legal discussion.
I was hoping for some positive feedback or even negative for that matter, but was shocked by the legal tone of the posts. Some interesting points to ponder for sure, but can you tell me how you feel about this rather than what the legal ramifications might be?
I mean are you really suggesting that any corporate owned terrestrial station has something to fear from a start-up Internet Radio Station in the Houston market? The station is commercial free so it takes 0 advertising dollars from any of the local stations assuming any local businesses would advertise on the new Rock 101 KLOL.

Oh come on...it was changing demographics and the near-death of new rock that hurt KLOL and dozens of other rock stations around the country. The rock radio audience split into several sub-genres 20 years ago, none of which was willing to listen to the music of the other. We'll see if all those sub-genres will be satsified with your music mix, rather than complain about it either having too much classic, too much rap, too much metal, too much this or that. Good luck.

That's why I said it wasn't "corporate greed." Things changed in many ways.

Investment in a radio station wasn't going to increase the rock audience in Houston, or improve the marketability of new rock. The train has already left the station. That's why no one else has attempted the format since KLOL flipped.

While I agree with your general point, what about Cumulus and KIOL (first at 97.5 and then at 103.7)?

Your point is?
My point is that I think someone did try a Mainstream Rock format in Houston after KLOL (albeit on rimshots), even though I agree with the rationale that KLOL may have been squeezed too much by co-owned KTBZ and KKRW for it to have continued in that format.
