That comes from a corporate owned station that is not in touch with it's audience.

None of that changes the fact that the audience for this kind of music is diminishing in Houston, and those who remain have become less tolerant of music they don't like. Ownership doesn't stiffle playlists. Listeners do. You'll find out. You see it more in rock than any other format.

Yes. there is a diminishing audience of rock - because of stale playlists on both the classic rock and active rock stations here. They even got rid of the indie/alternative college station KRTU and now are ditching AAA 103.7 FM. Hell, Co(ck)x ****ed it up by killing off The Zone for a freaking simulcast of The Eagle, where 107.5 can be heard throughout the metro area. You think everyone in this city listens to classic rock and rap? Please. Listeners have zero input on what goes on corporate radio, despite all the robo calls and the wasteful surveys on what should go on the radio. Quit dogging on an internet station that wants to bring back the glory days of KLOL who is also mixing in modern rock and stuff you don't normally hear on the radio, such as album tracks and the whole "oh well someone's going to sue and order a cease and dissist because some internet station is using a monkier that was killed off 8 years ago." They don't care.

Nobody listens to Houston radio anymore because it sucks. In fact, most radio stations across this country suck, they're all the same boring music, nobody wants to hear Don't Stop Believin unless they're drunk at 2am. Internet radio is the way to go and congrats to the revamp of KLOL, the music is ****ing fantastic! ;D

No. Urban and various Hispanic formats dominate Houston radio. Six stations with a wide variety of Spanish formats. More people listen to KLOL now that it's a Spanish station. The audience that might have listened to rock 25 years ago is now a much smaller segment of Houston's population. The new population loves Houston radio, and they've co-opted most of the frequencies. And that leaves the old audience forlorn.

Ok now that is a flat out lie. Mega 101 has NEVER achieved the levels Rock 101 KLOL did, and last I checked it was all the way down to number 13 on the Arbitron ratings, which is of course worthless anyway, but hey if you want to be told who is listening because some corporation waved a magical stick in the air and POOF, they suddenly knew they were number X in the market go ahead.

With Internet Radio I know EXACTLY who is listening and how many without any made up voodoo ratings systems that was designed to make money for Arbitron, not help stations get in tune with their audience.

Rock101KLOL, don't let a few naysayers on this board discourage you from this. I agree with you that both CC and CBS have had 8 years to bring back the legend and have no interest in doing so. IMO, they have lost the brand by default. Keep rockin', brother!

I was hoping for some positive feedback or even negative for that matter, but was shocked by the legal tone of the posts. Some interesting points to ponder for sure, but can you tell me how you feel about this rather than what the legal ramifications might be?

One thing I'd like to see is a smart phone app. Just about every station I stream has one, it makes a perfect way to get the stream into my car radio through its iPod dock, it is a pain in the posterior to do it through a web site - and I am afraid that is limiting you.

While I think it will be great to have a branded app, there are apps out there now that will play the stream. Just search the app store for Shoutcast. I can provide a link if needed but there are many apps that will work now. Perhaps in the future we will develop our own app, but for now we will just suggest apps already available. Great suggestion though thanks!

I can give you some positive feedback, KLOL. Thank you. At least you have done something more than just talk about it. You took some initiative. Kudos to you.

Thank you for the support! I really appreciate all of the feedback.

Rock101KLOL you da ant!!! Too cool man!! Love it, love it!! All the naysayers can F--- Off! With the exception of KACC, Houston rock radio is a complete and utter joke... I can't stand it and hardly ever listen anymore, if any! They play Red Hot Chili Peppers on Sunny now!! What more do you need?

I'm sure there are plenty of listeners like me who have really felt betrayed by the system of corporate radio... Jeez, does The Eagle really have to broadcast on TWO frequencies?? Somehow this just makes it twice as bad... This is proof they don't really care. Putting minimal extra coverage ahead of trying to reel in more listeners with another format... Even a totally automated, voice-tracked, almost no overhead station would be preferable to the SOS day after day...

Hello old friends. I am happy to say "kudos" to whomever seeks to keep the memory of KLOL alive.

It was corporate greed that cost Houston it cultural icon for 34 years...

Oh come on...it was changing demographics and the near-death of new rock that hurt KLOL and dozens of other rock stations around the country. The rock radio audience split into several sub-genres 20 years ago, none of which was willing to listen to the music of the other. We'll see if all those sub-genres will be satsified with your music mix, rather than complain about it either having too much classic, too much rap, too much metal, too much this or that. Good luck.

Actually, it was the dismantling of the morning show that really did the trick. The rest was just gravy.

This still won't bring back the terrestrial station that we were all fond of.
3 years from now you can put your fm dial on 101.1 and i will still be Spanish!

I appreciate that Clear Channel held onto the KLOL calls after the flip to Mega.. Same for CBS out of respect for the stations history (I'm assuming). But maybe it's time to let them go as well. I mean those calls are etched in our minds as being synonymous with rock. As long as those calls are still in place were always going to remember what 101.1 used to be every time we hear them and that bitterness over the loss will be recalled over it. I think mega should be allowed new calls. It needs to be free of the stations former identity.
