Rock104/100.5 Dothan

This is the first I'm hearing of it. Rock 104's stream is still online through TuneIn Radio but they've changed the liners to say "Rock 100.5" so it may be permanent. The website of Rock 104 is gone, but the WLDA website for The Beat is still active, but with no stream.

Was that bought by Clay Holliday or someone associated with that 'group'? I honestly no nothing about that sale or even the station. What's the deal?

Isn't this station involved in the shuffle to move 93.7 to Montgomery? As I recall changes had to be made at 4 or 5 stations to get that station to the Gump.

Poledo you are right, actually WDBT is going to 93.5 in Montgomery, WAAO 103.7 Is Moving to the former WDBT 93.7 frequency in Geneva which would allow 103.9 to Move the Tower and Transmitter To Newton as filed already it says they intend to go from 25k-26k and to build a taller tower putting a better city grade signal into Dothan than what it is currently. As far as Ownership It started out being bought from Majic Broadcasting along with WKMX,WTVY,WLDA &WBBK. Clay Holladay wanted the 100,000 watters with his cluster The Radio People in Dothan But he already had WDJR,WDBT,WESP & WECB but due to ownership limits he had to unload some of his so he was able to get rid of WESP & WECB by forming Southeast Alabama Broadcasters and Putting Georgia Edmisten as President adding WESP &WECB to WJRL, WLDA &WBBK. Georgia was kept President for a year then Robert Holladay ( Clay's Brother according to Corporation Wiki) Is President doing away with Georgia. Now it's showing that Clay Holladay (The Radio People) Is the owner of WJRL as of the end of December, Then he went Dark with it. But once the change of WAAO happens and WDBT happens I would venture to guess he will be buildthe new WJRL tower and turning it back on.

Here's a link to a news article I found when all this first went down.

From the station's STA filing: "DUE TO FINANCIAL REASONS, THE OPERATIONS OF THE STATION HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED."

Didn't it just get purchased a few months ago? ::)

Zach I can't find the Sta where is it ?

since this station is involved in an expensive deal moving around 5 stations how can they claim they had to take it dark due to financial reasons? just tell the truth or the closest to the truth as you can get away with.

Here.

The whole ownership shuffle that's gone on in Dothan has given me a headache. I can't keep up with it. But thank you Alabama Florida Radio, you made the most sense so far!

It all comes down to this basically one guy from Mississippi has created a Monoply in the Dothan Market and pulled the wool over the Fcc's eyes. Look below

Yeah, I'm assuming most people reading know about the Dothan monopoly situation. I know Zach sure as hell does. This is the same ownership group that went by the name "The Radio People" for ages, right? I wonder how they wound up settling down in Dothan instead of a poor Mississippi market?

Before all the consolidation in Dothan it was the most discussed market in Alabama on Radio-Info. It seems kinda quiet over there now.

Oh they are still in Mississippi & Louisanna also and from what I understand they have kinda done some of the same stuff there too. It just blows my mind that the Fcc has ownership rules but doesn't really enforce them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see whats on just by reading the filings I sure as heck see why they can't blows my mind

Something else that is concerning about all this was brought to my attention earlier today, and that is that it's being reported that WDBT is supposed to be sold to Brantley Broadcast Associates after its move to Montgomery.

Has Brantley ever actually operated a real radio station? I ask because their name only seems to show up on dead stations. They had the CP for a complex directional AM in Mobile that expired; they are the listed owners of silent WEZZ Monroeville, which at one time was slated to move into New Orleans, but that never happened. Now it's got a CP to move to Brantley, but it's been in suspended animation since 2009. They also show as the owner of WONA AM in Winona, MS. I used to live in that area and that station has been silent for probably 10 years.

When I see the name "Brantley Broadcast Associates" I think it's where struggling radio stations go to die. I have a sinking feeling 93.7 will magically disappear before ever moving to Montgomery.

Didn't Brantly sell either the Andalusia or Greenville country station to its current owner?

I too have been watching Brantly accumulate pitifully run or dark radio stations with no apparent purpose in mind for over a decade. Brantly is to radio stations what Flinn is to TV stations.
... perhaps I'm the only one that thinks sitting on a broadcast license is a bad investment. I believe owners of broadcast licenses need to be milking every $ they can out of there property while they still can. The market is so volitile that using radio for investment purposes is so far outside my comfort zone I've decided I won't do it unless I can afford to loose all of my investment.

So just what is wrong with a little business competition between husband and wife, father and son, mentor and pupil, trust A and trust B? Oh, is it that they're sharing resources and staff and don't appear to be competing at all... That a slippery slope that would cost way too many tax dollars to prove. It's only Dothan. I'm content with the FCC sitting back and watching Dothan as if it were a "test market". They do have competition from other sources of journalism... and WOOF. Just sit back and enjoy the Holladay show. Hopefully they won't do what they did in Fort Walton and sell all of the Wiregrass' top 5 radio stations to Cumulus.
