ROCKFORD MAVERICK STATIONS LAY OFFS & SALARY CUTS

A friend of mine in Rockford told me Maverick let some people go and made salary cuts to some remaining this week. I was told Uncle Doug's producer who has been there for 12 years was let go this week.

Larry is gone (Doug's Producer), Doug is out of Morning Drive, Mayhew is out of hosting (doing just newscasts) and others have been given cut in salary.

WOW!!! So sorry to hear about Larry being let go. Never met him in person, but when I would call in to some of the shows on NTA he was always very professional and friendly to talk to even while he was producing Dougs show. As for some of the other changes that are taking place I think they are long overdue. When you have WGN beating not only WNTA, but also WROK change is something I am kinda shocked had not taken place sooner. CC1

Change for just the sake of change is not a good thing. Listening to the train wreck that replaced Doug shows it was plain and simple the company being cheap. Put a weaker-cheaper morning show in that can be easily controlled and force the older people to quit. In my opinion the reason Doug wasn't completely thrown under the bus is because he is far over the age of forty and the powers that be thought they could humilate him with the pay cut and demotion and he would instantly quit. This is a possible hostile work scenerio...all depends on how he is being treated otherwise. I hope he contacts the eeoc...files a complaint...and retains an attorney. If Larry is over forty he should do the same...yes it is a right to work state...but, WNTA had gains in the last ratings and I believe you will find they were meeting all goals...if not exceeding them. So after all the years of hard work that Douig and Larry have done...their reward is an enema from the company.

I was waiting to see if there were any other comments and since there are I will give my .2 worth... Putting Sylvia in mornings is like letting a blind guy drive... She was a good fill in for Mark in the afternoon, but mornings you have got to be kidding me. when you take your strongest show and move it something is not right. Since I don't have the breakdown of the ratings I would like to know how MM thinks putting the conspiracy queen on the air will help them... I would say if they want to cut cost just put some good syndicated programing on!!! With the way things are going WGN will still kick the ass out of Rockford talk radio. CC1

Good points CC...as usual ;) The syndication problem for them is it eats up avails/limits inventory.
